I had the honor of delivering the annual MLK sermon at Central Synagogue.
My speech touches on a range of topics and themes: October 7th, Jim Crow, Leo Frank, MLK, Elie Wiesel, silence, indifference, moral clarity, nonviolence, Israel, Am Yisrael Chai, Hatikvah, and hope.
9YO: "Can I come back to life after I die? Like maybe after I rest for a year?"
Me: "... Out of curiosity, is there any additional... context?"
9YO: "I'd like to come back as a fish in a zoo so I can see the rest of the tank. But also can we go to a corn maze soon?"

To add slightly more context: after 15 hours on the road, I had to battle the kids to stay in a hotel at all because they thought we were just supposed to sleep in the car. Are we scrappy? Resilient? Hardy? I'm not sure. But the expectations are definitely a #spicydisaster here.
My kiddo has declared that @Home2Suites is "basically a resort" -- is this my failure as a parent? Or are the snack gift bags at check-in just that exciting? #travelingwithmicrohumans
Apparently, Lutherans have their own sushi: Luth Sush. As an Episcopalian, I'm trying to decide whether or not I feel left out, apathetic, or if this is a call to action?
When your kids are old enough to actually read the GPS, it's a travel game changer. I can't convince them there's 11dee2 miles to go anymore. Or that "we're almost there" for 9 straight hours.... Worse, they actually recognize and call me out when I make a wrong turn?!?!
In summary, small people become wild animals after several hours in a vehicle. After that, you must interpret noises as signals for bodily functions. When they start howling, it's an emergency and it is time to pull over.
