On a deportation train to Auschwitz-Birkenau, 17-year-old Erwin Haber wrote letters to his family and tossed them out of the train, hoping they would be found. He wrote, “Don’t lose hope, everything will be alright." He died just a few weeks after arriving at the notorious camp.
