The difference,

Farage is a brilliant disruptor and communicator. He’s not a leader who can run a country.

Lowe is.

Farage has spent 30 years starting parties, quitting them, and restarting them. He has never built or sustained anything institutional. He thrives on the campaign, the mic, the chaos. The second the cameras leave, the structure collapses.

Lowe is a businessman who actually ran things. He understands incentives, delivery, and consequences. He doesn’t need the spotlight to function. That’s the difference between a protest figure and a potential Prime Minister.

Farage’s style is permanent opposition. He is most comfortable when the system is broken and he can point at it.

Lowe’s instinct is to take the broken thing and fix the parts that can actually be fixed without theatre.

Farage’s movement has repeatedly shown the same pattern: loyalty is demanded upward, accountability is optional downward.

Lowe has been willing to say uncomfortable things about his own side when it mattered. That is rare.

Britain does not need another charismatic outsider who treats politics as performance. It needs someone who can walk into a room of civil servants, business leaders and foreign counterparts and not need the crowd to clap every five minutes.

Farage can win attention.

Lowe can win competence.

One is a permanent campaign.
The other is a governing temperament.

Choose accordingly.

The last overseas shearers Britain intends to let in are on the fells right now, working out the final weeks of their leave.

The door shut on 30 June. No vote, no debate, no announcement, just a date passing quietly in a summer when everyone was looking elsewhere. Those still working the Borders this week are here on leave that expires on 1 October, and when they fly out that is the end of it.

Understand what is walking out.

Six New Zealanders spent three months in one Northumberland valley last year and sheared nearly 90,000 sheep. Fifteen thousand head each, across farms from the Scottish Borders down to County Durham. They have been coming into Coquetdale for over thirty years. Since 2011 a concession has let up to 75 of them in each spring, and between them they take the wool off one and a half to two million British sheep in a window a few weeks long.

The Home Office rejected the application on 2 February. Twenty-six days of farmers writing to their MPs got it reinstated on 10 March for one final year, with a line about the sector having had fourteen years to train British workers and now being expected to transition to domestic labour.

Here is what that sentence is standing on. British Wool trains over 800 people a year, most of those courses are basic level, and most of the people on them are sheep farmers learning to do their own flock. Training was never the bottleneck. A top shearer clears a ewe in two or three minutes, calm hands, no panic in the animal, hundreds a day for weeks on end, and reaching that standard takes years of conditioning and a place in a global trade that follows the season around the planet.

Fourteen million breeding ewes. A few weeks to do them all. A sheep left in fleece gets eaten alive by maggots, so the job is not optional and the date is not negotiable.

Next spring those farms make phone calls that nobody answers.

Seventy-five shearers, once a year, and a government that could not find room for them.

This took place earlier today (27th July) at Shaldon Beach, Teignmouth, Devon.

A member of the public reports seeing the man in the photo below pick up his dog and throw him against a stone wall multiple times. The witness states he then pinned the dog to the ground and punched him repeatedly, while the woman with him stood by and watched.

According to the witness, this happened because the dog didn’t recall immediately and the man got his jeans wet retrieving him.

So I read it.

Two hundred and nineteen pages of the Rape Gang Inquiry report, start to finish, at my kitchen table.

My God.

The debauchery and the cowardice.

I have read a lot of ugly documents. This one is different, because the ugliness is not the surprise. The cowardice is. Somebody in every single one of these towns knew, wrote it down, filed it, and went home to dinner.

Here is what is in it.

Britain did not get this report from its government.

It got it from twenty thousand people who passed the hat.

Chaired by Rupert Lowe MP.

Panel included Esther McVey, Nick Timothy and Carla Lockhart.

Run day to day by Sammy Woodhouse, who survived Rotherham before she investigated it.

That detail is the whole story.

The state that spent forty years refusing to look was never going to fund the looking.

What the Inquiry documented is not a series of local tragedies.

It is one national pattern repeated town after town.

Organised networks that moved girls between cities, supplied them with drugs and alcohol, filmed the abuse for blackmail, and passed children between multiple adult men.

Confirmed in at least 149 local authority districts.

That is close to 40% of every district in the United Kingdom.

The method was identical everywhere.

Befriend a girl at eleven.

Cigarettes, vodka, attention, the feeling of being treated like an adult.

Collect her by taxi from the school gates or the care home.

Take her to a flat, a takeaway, a hotel.

Then the group.

The earliest case the Inquiry traced sits in the British Newspaper Archive, four Bradford men charged with raping a fifteen year old girl from Middlesbrough, back in 1955.

Seventy years of receipts.

On scale, the report is careful, so I will be too.

The 250,000 figure everyone quotes came from Lord Pearson in the House of Lords in May of 2019.

It was an extrapolation from Rotherham and Telford, not a headcount.

Pearson called it an underestimate.

The Casey Audit of June 2025 said the true scale cannot be quantified, because the data was never properly collected and in places was suppressed on purpose.

Both things are true at once.

Nobody knows the number because nobody was allowed to count.

That was the design.

On the perpetrators, the Inquiry cites court records showing 87% of those convicted in group based cases carried distinctively Muslim names, and an Oxford imam, Dr Taj Hargey, putting the real proportion nearer 95%.

Those are cited estimates, not a census.

Baroness Casey reached the politer version of the same finding and the country still called it far right to say out loud.

Then the institutions.

Police who closed cases without opening them.

Social workers who treated protective parents as the threat and the traffickers as a lifestyle choice.

An NHS that treated the infections in a thirteen year old and sent her home the same night.

Schools that excluded the victim and left the perpetrator his access.

Licensing boards that renewed the taxi permits that made the whole thing run.

Every door a child could have walked through was locked from the inside.

Here is the part that should end careers.

The government finally announced its own inquiry in December of 2025 under Baroness Longfield.

Its terms of reference were finalised in March of 2026, drawn so tightly that it cannot examine the national scale, cannot examine the perpetrator profile, and cannot examine the political calculation that protected them for decades.

It is permitted to examine local operational failures.

It is engineered to find nothing.

A rape survivor and a backbench MP did what the British state would not do in forty years.

They passed the hat and did it themselves.

People are being left to sleep in tents in the pouring rain while councils say there is no accommodation available. This is not how anyone should be treated.

If the reports are true that Hammersmith & Fulham Council is investigating a complaint over a restaurant displaying a “Proudly Non-Halal” sign, then Britain has a serious problem.

Since when did stating what you serve become controversial?
Businesses openly advertise halal, vegan, kosher, gluten-free, and every other dietary option. So why should “Non-Halal” be treated differently just because someone doesn’t like it?

A complaint isn’t the same as wrongdoing. If we start policing lawful signs because they offend someone’s feelings, where does it end?

Freedom of expression doesn’t mean only saying what’s popular, it means protecting the right to say things that some people disagree with.
