We had massive problems and heavy losses with Salmonella monte video in early 90s following heavy geese grazing in spring. Built a sheep shed in 1994 lambed inside and ended problem
@RobertHodgkins1 We haven't t had any noticeable/conclusive problems from it, thoughwe dont start lamning/calving til maybe a week or two after most of the geese have left. Depends how much dung there is I guess? More worried about them eating all my grass.
@NeilKing11 Long standing 1991 tenancy brought to an end by incontestable notice after planning permission granted over whole farm for development. Hopefully next Land Reform Bill will provide more realistic compensation for tenant, but too late for this family
I feel heart sore for you, Kirsty, I know how much the farm felt for you and your family. We talk about “secure” tenancies but no tenant is secure with a determined landlord and current incontestable notices to quit. Change needed and tenants must receive suitable compensation

We got handed our Notice to Quit yesterday
While I could rage against the lack of agency, seat at the table & transparency being a secure tenant farmer in land use change faces
For now my heart is just sore - we never owned the land, but it has owned me #Lamberkin
Glad to see you are looking into the French SAFER system. I raised it over 10 years ago in the TFF as a model for land market regulation which could be adapted for Scottish conditions. Even more need for it now!
Interesting read on agric land regulation in France & Germany. @ScottishLandCom will soon publish an analysis of the French SAFER system of land market governance which has evolved from the 1960s onwards.
Just handed over nearly £1k to Highland Council for 2 #STL applications for a business I run from my HOME which PREVENTS rather than contributes to lack of available local housing 🤔😠
Will #Sutherland see any of this money??
Missed opportunity to address empty 2nd homes! 😤
Delighted to host aa visit from agricultural students from Texas and introduce them to local history as well as our Luing cattle, NCC and Cheviot Mule flock and highland farming. Thanks to team leader Fiona Sloan
Guardian article on @ScottishLandCom rural land market study, 'Land ownership in Scotland is at risk of becoming more elitist and unequal because wealthy corporations and forestry companies are dramatically driving up land prices, a new study has warned.' https://t.co/JoWzQtqM7Y
The Prime Minister’s boast at #PMQs having been told of a child eating cereal with water because their parents couldn’t afford milk should send the country into outrage. If you share my anger RT this widely
Scottish Tory leader MP/ MSP assistant referee Douglas Ross failed to declare his earnings while families used food banks
Please do not RT and remind Dougie of this!
"wine bar pseudo intellectuals" does have a ring to it. Fergus clearly speaking his mind here. You might not agree with all of it, but the central premise of an urban lowland Green party being the tail that wags the SNP, (now increasingly led by the same type) rings true for me.
Agree, how is Rural Affairs Cab Sec @MairiGougeon going to cope with addition of Land Reform and taking 2 major bills through parliament by herself with an understaffed civil service?
Add in the lack of clear ministerial role for Gaelic, and the seeming removal of a supporting minister for the Rural Affairs/Islands CabSec and it's looking even more stark.
H&I folks - can we do better than this?
King Charles inherited £650m tax free, gets £350m a year tax free from the tax payer, and has an estate worth £22bn that is never taxed.
But he still can’t pay for his own damn coronation.
RT if you think the tight, robbing b******* should.
