This International Workers Day, we visited the Teamsters picket line. These nurses have been on strike for almost 250 days, reminding us that the right to organize has to be fought for and protected every day. To the Teamsters - we've got your back and we will stand with you as long as it takes.

I'm the only Michigan Democrat who won a Trump district in 2024. I know how hard it is to win, and serving in the Minority, I know the consequences of losing. Both losing elections and losing sight of what matters and what unites us.

What I saw on the MDP Convention floor is deeply troubling – for what it says about who we are, how we win, and whether we will be able to meet this urgent moment.

Then, we pull up a chair to our table, and ask everybody – people from all walks of life and with different viewpoints – to join us in our mission.

We create spaces where everybody – from a retired UAW worker to a farmer, a teacher and their student, and the grandparent sitting next to me at Mass or a Shabbat dinner – is respected, liked, and welcome.

We repeat, over and over, the most powerful sentence in politics: “tell me about that.” Because the real work starts with listening and understanding.

We are joyful, hopeful, and determined to get things done, and we do it together.
