I don't understand why fanfic isn't treated the same as fanart. Fic writer can be serious, want to improve and write for a living the same way some artists who do fanart sometimes. And some creators just do it casually and don't want their fun hobby to be criticized.

i also think a lot of people misunderstand the purpose of ao3. most people see it as a fanfiction platform, but it's supposed to be an ARCHIVE of fan WORKS. if you've written a huge forum thread about a theory you have you can publish it on ao3 too. This is from their TOS ⬇️

when people read fanfiction i've written, if they comment on my characterization, i.e. "this is exactly how i picture them" "this sounds exactly like how ___ talks" etc, that's the best kind of compliment for me. commentary on writing quality is nice but it doesn't hit as hard.

I just love how in dandadan after you get past the action scenes you get rewarded with romance and slice of life and in frieren after the slice of life you get rewarded with awesome action scenes, and i love every part of both
