I’m deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Marjane Satrapi.
Marjane was a towering artist, a singular voice, and a steadfast advocate for the Iranian people. Beyond her remarkable achievements, I will remember a woman of extraordinary passion and heart.
We bonded over our shared love for Iran, our connection to Rasht, and a belief in the power of art to transcend politics.
When her beloved husband, Mattias, died last year, she spoke of a grief that had become a fire—one that grew larger, not smaller, with time. It was impossibles to read her words and not be moved by the depth of her love and loss.
The world knew her as the creator of Persepolis. I will remember her sharp wit, fearless candor, and unwavering love for our homeland.
Marjane leaves behind an extraordinary legacy—not only through her work, but through the authenticity with which she moved through the world.
Rest gently, dear Marjane.
100 days ago, on January 8th and 9th, millions of Iranians took to the streets knowing the price they might pay. More than 40,000 heroes paid that price for Iran's dignity, liberty, and freedom.
Young women tore off their headscarves in front of armed security forces. Students organized, marched, and faced plainclothes agents on campuses. Teachers, lawyers, and workers walked off their jobs. Shopkeepers shuttered their stores in solidarity. Millions of ordinary people did extraordinary things in city after city in an epic display of national unity.
The regime answered with bullets, mass arrests, and show trials and executions. Facing an inhuman evil, Iranians showed superhuman bravery. More than 40,000 gave their lives.
My compatriots kept going and their courage belongs to history. This is the final battle and they are preparing to win the war against the Islamic Republic. In this battle to reclaim our nation, I will not stop fighting until the day they are free.
We hope the world will be with us. Whether it is or not, our fight will continue and we will liberate Iran.
Watch it, share it, and send it to every Iranian‑American you know so the entire diaspora sees this.
This is bigger than one race. Yasamin Ansari is just one example of a whole wing of the Democratic Party that’s trying to block regime change in Iran while pretending they’re “protecting American national security.” In reality, tying Trump’s hands only protects the Islamic Republic and keeps Americans and our allies under threat.
Call your representatives. Call your senators. Tell them real American national security does not mean shielding this regime from pressure.
