@DrCABerry Happy birthday, Dr. Berry. Your career, impact on your communities, and craft I hoped to teach to mine… you did it. Thanks for showing me how it can be done. Now I hope someone does this for the lonely queer deaf disabled asian kiddos in the back immigrant section.
@CamarieZ I’m sorry. Nobody should ever need to deal with that. We’re excluded from the world so much ourselves, we shouldn’t turn around and do it back to our own kind!
@NikkiFromTShire@DisabilityJ Heya - I’m also deaf and an ASL signer; depending on where you are, there are some lovely deaf christian communities out there. Would be happy to chat if you like! DMs open.
@DisabilityJ I am unexpectedly spending holy week in the cancer ward. I’d really like this cup to pass. I know God can cure me, and am pissed this hasn’t happened. Please pray that I have faith and courage to go with Christ wherever I should go, even if I’m angry, scared, and grieving.
@jmhenner would have wanted you to donate, if you can, or share, or both.
If you can help in any way, it will help me feel like I’m not fighting for our kids all by myself.

@MikellTaylor Urgh. I'm so sorry. We as a society can be better - should be better! - at protecting the vulnerable, and we have failed. I hope you all get through this quickly and lightly.
@Saltbar Should give original image credit to Dani Donovan, https://t.co/qZyKQaJclZ.
I’m deaf and adhd and it’s a very accurate diagram for me on both counts.
Almost 25 years ago, I moved to Las Vegas. The next year, I got a job briefly as a web designer for the Southern Nevada Water Authority. (I was not a good fit. 😂) I took tours of the water system from Lake Mead to take pictures for the website.
I was confused.
@DrMonicaCox I'm so glad to hear this, and so heartened that you're doing this work. I'm training up to rejoin you once I'm through cancer - including going back to read more history, CRT, etc. books I didn't have nearly enough exposure to pre-PhD. Thanks for terraforming in the meantime.
@LealaHolcomb Yes, and it depends. If I need to tell them that (and they’re not students or others who might not know it.), something is wrong.
I might not say so right away, since that risks backlash during my interpreted situation. But it’s a strong consideration for “never hire again.”
@MichaelSkyer I’m pretty terrified to lose COBRA in spring 2024, because I don’t know what Medicare will cover. I would like to stay alive and be able to work again someday!
@cyreejarelle spot and work against racism (and classism, queer/transphobia, etc) in all its forms within your disability communities, b/c all the responses to this thread I’ve read are even less accessible/safe to do if you’re nonwhite, poor, etc. - recognize disability lands different on POC
@DrMonicaCox This is a great book. A group of fellow disabled folks got me reading and discussing it (it’s missing a disability lens, but makes some excellent points). Curious how you find it!
@meixinglingual Ah, yes. That time of year. Refilling bottles of Costo-sized vitamins to eliminate air space, using soft gifts (like clothes) as padding for other gifts, repeated choruses of "what do you mean, they don't sell [commonplace thing in the US] in Manila?" - safe travels and enjoy!
@hey_ash21 This is very similar to what I have said, so thanks for asking this question! The answers you're getting are fantastic, and giving me more options for my spiel as well.
Just got my @jmhenner quote magnet - "How you language is beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you your languaging is wrong. Your languaging is the story of your life."
It's going proudly on my fridge right now so I will see and celebrate and honor Jon every day. @emleh06
