I first met Putin in Helsinki in 2010. For us, the gas price from Russia was a huge question.

We fully depended on gas supplies from Russia. And we had been paying about 30–40% more than Germany was paying, for example.

For a neighboring country where the pipelines are some 2,000 km closer, we were paying so much.

During the meeting, Putin read me a list of what Lithuania was supposed to do, and it was clear to me that it was about obedience, about surrendering.

It was clear to me that with countries neighboring Russia, you either kneel or you are the enemy, and you have nothing in between.

Of course, I was not able to accept these requests. After this meeting, I understood that Lithuania needed to get rid of its dependency on energy from Russia.

We moved very quickly to build an LNG terminal. We were the first in Europe to do this at that time. By the end of 2014, we had an LNG terminal.

This allowed us to fully cut our dependency on Russian gas and Gazprom in Lithuania, and even to help our neighbors in Latvia and Estonia.

The West humiliated Russia in the 1990s. This war is the consequence.’

I’ve heard this in every language, from every podium. It is history rewritten backwards.

Recall what actually happened to defeated Russia: no occupation. No reparations. No tribunal. It kept its nuclear arsenal and its UN veto. Its debts were forgiven and refinanced. It was handed IMF billions and a seat at the G8 — a club of democracies admitting a wounded autocracy out of hope.

Now recall an actually humiliated nation: Germany, 1945. Occupied. Partitioned. Cities in ash, leaders hanged, guilt taught to its children by law.

Germany became the most peaceful democracy in Europe. Russia became this.

So spare me the humiliation theory. Russia was not humiliated after the Cold War. It was indulged — and it read every kindness as weakness, every gift as tribute.

The grievance was never mistreatment. The grievance was lost dominion.

Empires do not mourn their wounds. They mourn their slaves.

A Russian drone struck a supermarket in Chernihiv, killing at least two people, including a child, and injuring twenty others. Fires broke out after the attack as rescue workers searched for survivors and extinguished the flames.

On the same day, Russia also dropped guided aerial bombs on Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and injuring another.

This is the reality of Russia's war against Ukraine. Russia chooses to target places that should be among the safest. Each attack is intended to spread fear far beyond the site of the strike.

Russia's terror will not stop on its own. It must be constrained by stronger sanctions, greater military support for Ukraine, and more air defence systems capable of stopping missiles, drones, and aerial bombs before they reach their targets.

Напередодні Нового року 11-річній Юлі запропонували вибрати будь-який подарунок. Вона відповіла: "Хочу маму".

Її мама, Наталія Власова, вже 7 років у російському полоні. Бойовики "ДНР" захопили її ще в 2019-му, звинувативши у шпигунстві. Далі - тортури, сфабрик��ваний суд і 18 років в'язниці.

Наталія - одна з двох тисяч українських жінок, яких незаконно утримує Росія. Майже кожна з них пережили сексуальне насильство та тортури.

Її доньці на момент розлуки було 4 роки. За 7 років полону вони говорили по телефону лічені рази.

Одного разу колишня в'язниця передала Юлі мамину кофту. Дівчинка носила її та нюхала - це був єдиний спосіб для неї відчути маму поруч. А потім дзвінки припинилися.

У "Ізоляції" Наталію роздягали, зв'язували скотчем, обливали водою та били струмом. Вона казала: "Розплющую очі - а в мене обличчя у запеченій крові".

Її закривали в "кам'яному мі��ку" - крихітному приміщенні без можливості сісти, де від холоду німіли ноги. Їй вибили зуби та виривали волосся.

Але вона не плакала й трималася. Наталія - психологиня, у камері малювала, займалася йогою й підтримувала інших.

Умови були нелюдськими: 10 квадратних метрів на 14 осіб, бетонна підлога, металеві нари та відсутність вентиляції.

Вода - раз на три дні, баня - раз на два тижні. У камері кишіли клопи й таргани. Годували водою з гнилою капустою. Медичної допомоги не було - максимум аспірин.

Людмила Гусейнова, яка сама пережила три роки полону й заснувала ініціативу "Нумо, сестри!", б'є на сполох: жінок вивозять углиб ��осії та переміщують між колоніями.

Зв'язок із Наталією майже втрачено. Під час суду в Ростові вона с��ідчила про тортури й насильство, казала, що просила застрелити її, але їй відмовили. Імовірно, саме за ці свідчення їй винесли 18 років.

Організація Гусейнової опікується Юлею, але не може замінити маму. Дівчинка чекає щодня. І коли їй запропонували подарунок до свята, вона відповіла: "Я хочу маму".

Гусейнова наголошує: потрібна політична воля та міжнародний тиск. Їхня організація передала списки майже 40 жінок до Офісу Президента, Координаційного штабу, Омбудсмена, Папи Римського та Білого дому.

Але про це досі говорять недостатньо голосно.

Ми не має��о права забувати про цих жінок. Бо за кожною історією - чиєсь дитинство без мами, роки болю й щоденне очікування.

Russian “Shahed” drones can release small delayed-action munitions before impact.

According to radio electronics specialist Serhiy “Flash,” a single drone may carry up to 22 of these submunitions. Each contains a timer that can reportedly be set anywhere from 24 hours to 5 days, meaning they may remain dangerous long after the drone attack.

If you see a suspicious object, do not approach it or touch it. Mark the location if it is safe to do so and notify the emergency services. Even Ukrainian rescue teams use specialist equipment and robots to recover these devices.

Demographic destruction is one of the quietest yet most brutal forms of genocide, and Russia is actively executing it across Ukraine.

When analysts debate Russian genocide, they often focus on child abductions, re-education camps, and mass graves, but the demographic statistics reveal an equally dark reality.

Under the UN Genocide Convention, genocide is defined not just as mass slaughter, but as deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to bring about a group's physical destruction and prevent births within the group.

Moscow justifies its illegal and unprovoked invasion by claiming Ukrainian statehood, history, and culture do not exist, acting on this ideology through forced Russification, family separations, and relentless terror designed to make normal life impossible.

Years of missile strikes, night alerts, mass displacement, and war have crushed Ukraine's demographics. Nationally, Ukraine now records 3.55 deaths for every single birth, up from around two before the full-scale invasion. In frontline regions, the numbers are catastrophic: Kherson Oblast has soared to 14 deaths per birth, while Donetsk Oblast stands at an unbelievable 19 deaths for every newborn.

For comparison, in Gaza, the death-to-birth ratio was 0.19 before the war, reached 0.8 to 1.1 at its peak in 2014, and sits around 0.36 currently. The demographic long-term damage in frontline Ukraine is far more severe.

When you combine these figures with atrocities like the 2022 siege of Mariupol (where up to 88,000, mostly civilians, died in just three months), the intent to destroy Ukraine's future becomes undeniably clear.

Ukraine has no choice but to resist and beat Russia, because living under Russian occupation means total demographic and cultural erasure.

To stop this deliberate erasure, the West must dramatically increase its military aid to Ukraine while applying maximum sanctions and pressure on Moscow

Crimean residents donated money en masse for pickup trucks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but they only found out about it later.

After a system malfunction with QR codes for refueling at gas stations, "kind people" began selling fake codes to Crimeans, supposedly allowing them to obtain gasoline bypassing the restrictions.

Those eager to get their hands on the scarce fuel immediately started paying. However, the money ultimately went towards collecting funds to purchase pickup trucks for the FPV (First-Person View) unit of the 110th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and not for gasoline.
