@kane_warwi51343 And stuff like this does make it difficult to have a lot of sympathy for the ground staff. They can’t be completely absolved of all blame in this.
@kane_warwi51343 Well there have been voices in the gaming community who have been talking about these issues for years. GamerGate etc. specifically to try and stop the industry from reaching this point. But they were labelled as sexist/alt-right brigaders and ignored. Now here we are.
@kane_warwi51343 The main failing of the leadership in terms of the working conditions is the propagation of this culture of toxic positivity. Bad ideas aren’t challenge for fear of being labelled “problematic” by HR
@kane_warwi51343 It doesn’t help the situation to push the narrative that “the anti-woke brigade and their minions are the reason these games are failing” and not just accepting the fact that they are failing because they are bad products
@kane_warwi51343 So just like any other company in any other industry. The leadership make poor decisions, the common worker gets punished for it.
The point is to make it clear to the leadership at these companies that this strategy of pandering to an audience that does not exist needs to stop.
@kane_warwi51343 Not at all.
But tailoring your game to a target demographic that is a very small proportion of the overall market will obviously result in your game failing on an economic level.
The layoffs are deserved because they created games that were an economic failure.
