Today E is for Education! We hold records for many Dundee schools, including lots of log books. These were like a diary, recording events at the school. The earliest log book is from Drumgeith School and dates from 1836. #dundee#ArchiveZ#education#everydaysaschoolday
#onthisday in 1879 the #Dundee Corporation (the predecessor to the City Council) bought the Albert Institute for sum of £1000. Here is a picture of it a few years before that. You can just see the old fountain, although its hiding behind a tree. #OTD https://t.co/rlK6wrCY7j
"[The McManus is] a museum full of artefacts crafted by many of the museum-goers, a live lesson in how culture connects people not only with history, but with previous generations." Brilliant piece on #Dundee by @lonelyplanet https://t.co/chPUv84OpA
#Didyouknow that some women could vote in local elections from 1882 if they paid local rates. The female voters roll was produced separately to the male roll. Both the female and male electoral rolls for #Dundee are held at the Central Library in the Wellgate. #womenshistorymonth
One of our favourite pictures in the Archives is the women painters of the Caledon Shipyard c.1918. Sadly we don't know much about them. We know that the woman third from the right on the top row is Catherine McIntosh. #Dundee#WomensHistory#WW1#IWD2018 https://t.co/1i8Wcy7s1p
