The actress who played Mikasa is now part of Japan’s first underwater sculpture 👀
Kiko Mizuhara, known to anime fans for playing Mikasa in Shinji Higuchi’s 2015 live-action Attack on Titan, is the model for Ocean Gaia, a massive underwater artwork installed off Tokunoshima Island in Kagoshima.
The sculpture rests about 5 meters below the surface, weighs over 45 tons, and spans 5.5 meters across.
Created by underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, Ocean Gaia is designed to become a “living” artwork over time.
Its pH-neutral cement and marine-grade stainless steel structure allow algae, coral, fish, and other marine life to gradually gather around it, turning the piece into both art and habitat.
The design also connects to Tokunoshima’s identity, with forms inspired by the island’s mountain range and the sand patterns made by the Japanese white-spotted pufferfish.
For anime fans, the detail that stands out is the model: the same actress who once brought Mikasa Ackerman to live-action is now represented as a symbol of life, renewal, and the sea.
From Attack on Titan to the ocean floor, this is one of the most unexpected anime-related real-world art connections 🌊
@vengeance_darth Gunn said all the rewrites are minor ones (totally normal for a movie). Amini also wrote Drive. The whole movie exist because of the quality of Flanagan’s script
@Based_SpaceGoji David Arnold’s score is outstanding! His Godzilla theme will always be iconic to me
I love Zilla’s design (perfected in the animated series)
