Things my clients have done in police interviews:
- Ignored the cops to take a nap.
- Physically slammed their own head into a desk in an attempt to make it look like the police assaulted them.
- Told the cops that he was going to walk because the cop was a rookie and he was going to hire a good lawyer and just openly mocked them non-stop.
- Shrieked incoherently for 60+ minutes.
...and literally all of these things were better choices than answering any of the officers' questions.
The Stonewall riots began 57 years ago today.
Queer patrons fought back against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, sparking days of protests against the police and discrimination. Today, the riots are widely recognised as a turning point in fighting for LGBTQ+ rights.
Landlords in NYC received 878,000 code violations last year alone, almost s third of which were for immediately hazardous violations including lead-based paint, lack of heat in winter and lack of hot water.
These landlords didn't violate the codes because they had no money to do maintenance or repairs. In 2024 (the last year that statistics are available) rent-stablized landlords saw a net profitability increase of 6.2%. In other words they're not hurting for money.
Anyone whining about a 2 year rent-freeze on rent stabilized apartments is doing so from a place of profound ignorance and an obvious contempt for the working class.
Karl: Israel is a Jewish state. That’s in the charter. Do you support that?
Mamdani: I’ve said time and again that I support the state of Israel as a state with equal rights.
Karl: As jewish state?
Mamdani: I believe that any state that privileges one religion over another is one that I can’t tell you I support, whether it be Israel or Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. And a lot of that comes back to a fundamental belief that we should all be considered equal, no matter what our faith is.
Gotta say I didn’t like this kid at first (I do not fuck with Penn State so he was just a victim of my haterism for that entire school) but he stands 10 toes down on his indigenous heritage and cares so much about the community so I have to respect him for that
Landlords threatening tenants with poor habitability as punishment for winning a rent freeze is just more evidence that we need stronger habitability laws too
I know it doesn't specifically say he didn't play ice hockey before organized competitive ice hockey, but if he legitimately did not lace up skates or play any ice hockey before 13 that's unfathomable, especially when you consider he's competing globally in that 1st rd draft.
Hi! 👋 Child of a landlord here. My stepfather isn’t using your rent money to improve your unit—that driveway is never getting fixed. He’s in Amsterdam *right now* doing mushrooms in a $600/night Airbnb.
