If you are counseling, ordering tests, providing resources, etc but you refuse to use gender-affirming language, you cannot in good conscience say that you are offering best practice medicine.
Language matters. It is quite literally a matter of life or death.
As a final year resident my program director sat us down & threatened to put “not a team player” our files if we didn’t agree to be on call every third night for a year *without* compensation.
Congratulations to @MGBUnited residents, interns and fellows for organizing to form a union with @cirseiu! I stand with these workers in their fight for better wages, benefits and work conditions.

Bracing for today’s anti-trans backlash, even though men & assault-style weapons underlie most mass shootings.
Let’s focus on what matters: Firearms are the # 1 cause of death in kids, and sensible gun safety laws save lives. Full stop.
When talking to teens, I complete my HEADS screening with a strength-based approach, which I learned as a med student from Dr. Ginsburg at CHOP. My opening question: "what is something about yourself you're proud of?"
How do you respond if a teen says "I don't know"?

Going through pregnancy & the birth of my child reinforced the way the socially constructed sex/gender binary has an absolute CHOKEHOLD on all of us.
Boxing in our curiosity to “is it a boy or girl” limits kids’ potential in such a sad way. We can do better.

Normalize the knowledge that using an LGBTQ+ person's pronouns can help decrease suicidality.
You respecting someone costs you nothing, but might mean everything to that individual.
Take this from someone who went into the hospital in active labor on July 1… The interns are smart, compassionate, prepared and well-supported.
To everyone navigating the first few weeks of intern year, you are doing amazing and we’re all so proud of you!

I was 4 for Columbine…I was 16 for Sandy Hook… I’m from the active shooter drill generation.
I’m now 26, training to become a pediatrician, and gun violence is the leading cause on death in children.
Don’t you dare tell me this isn’t my lane. #BanAssaultWeaponsNow
I’m livid and in tears. This could have been any of the kids I cared for today, because we live in a country that frankly doesn’t give a damn about the lives of our youth.
15 dead. 14 elementary school kids and 1 teacher.
This is NOT fucking normal.
