Improving Access to Psychological Therapies in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
This project is funded by the NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research program.
The PATHWAY Study is pleased to announce the results of our trial which found that Group Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) significantly improves symptoms of #anxiety and #depression in #cardiac rehabilitation patients.
It’s been an exciting day for our team as we had our first training day for PATHWAY Beacons! Thanks to our beacons sites for a great day! Excellent step forward in our evaluation of rolling out group MCT into cardiac rehabilitation services in the NHS across the UK!

We are looking for members of the public who would be interested in being involved in a patient and public involvement (PPI) group for the #PATHWAYBeacons study.
If you are interested in being a part of our PPI group or want some further information please see our advert below:
@Palmafrancesco4@CeNTrUM_UoM Great question ! The study only looked at testing MCT in cardiac rehab which is a great first start. Prehab is certainly one for the future !
#PPI Members share their experiences of #cardiac events and how joining the @mctpathway group has allowed them to make positive contributions to #research

"Living with serious physical illness has profound effects on emotional wellbeing, how sufferers view themselves, their future and their quality of life. We have made a breakthrough in improving mental health outcomes in heart disease patients" - Prof Adrian Wells #PATHWAYBeacons
#PATHWAYBeacons is an @NIHRresearch funded study to examine the roll-out and implementation of the Metacognitive Therapy (MCT)-PATHWAY across cardiac rehabilitation services in England in 2022.

Thanks to @NIHRCRN_gman for featuring us in their Greater Manchester Research Celebration Week! #GMRCW
🔵 Tell us about your experiences of taking part in research (PRES)
Every year @NIHRCRN_gman carries out the PRES (Participant in Research Experience Survey). Results help to understand people’s experiences of taking part in research.
