2027: Fulani Groups Endorse Danladi, Other APC Candidates in Kwara, Confer Traditional Title on Speaker
The Amalgamated Fulani Socio-Cultural Groups, alongside traditional leaders, youths, women and other pastoral stakeholders across Kwara State, have endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was made on Saturday during a town hall mega endorsement meeting held at Favour Hall, opposite Royal Valley Estate, along Zango-Akerebiata, Ilorin.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, former Special Adviser on Strategy to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Atiku Bahinda Abdulsalam, described the gathering as a demonstration of the Fulani community’s commitment to peace, unity and economic development in the state.
Abdulsalam commended the administration of Governor @RealAARahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as its developmental initiatives, particularly the establishment of the Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development.
He said the ministry had provided a platform for greater attention to livestock development, pastoral transformation and sustainable agricultural practices in the state.
“We sincerely commend His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his visionary leadership and remarkable developmental strides across the state,” Abdulsalam said.
“We particularly acknowledge the establishment of the Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development, a landmark initiative that has positioned Kwara as a frontrunner in livestock transformation and sustainable agricultural advancement.”
While commending existing government interventions, the groups called for further investment in pastoral infrastructure, including structured grazing reserves, improved pasture, modern ranching systems, nomadic settlements, schools, healthcare facilities, access roads and reliable water supply.
They also advocated increased investment in dairy processing and livestock value chains to create jobs, strengthen food security and promote inclusive economic growth.
The groups further called for sustained dialogue and peace-building mechanisms between farmers and herders, improved nomadic education and continued policy support for pastoral communities.
Abdulsalam also appreciated the state government for interventions across rural communities, including the provision of hand-pump boreholes, construction and renovation of nomadic and conventional primary schools, recruitment of teachers and appointments of members of the communities into political positions.
He also commended the government’s humanitarian intervention for displaced persons resettled at Buari Village in Kwara South following inter-community conflicts in neighbouring Oyo State.
The Fulani leadership, while highlighting the community’s presence across virtually all political wards and local government areas in Kwara, described its members as a significant electoral bloc in the state.
The meeting culminated in the endorsement of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Salihu Danladi, alongside the party’s candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Kwara State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections.
In a symbolic recognition of his leadership, the Amalgamated Fulani Groups also conferred on Danladi the traditional title of “Garso Fulani Kwara,” translated as Leader/Protector of the Fulani in Kwara State.
The groups presented him with traditional symbols associated with Fulani heritage during the ceremony.
Among the prominent Fulani leaders who attended the event were former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Sukababa; Chairman of the Jamu Nati Fulbe Association, Alhaji Umaru Babatunde; Ardo of Fulani in Kwara State, Alhaji Mahmud Ojonla; the Jonwuro of Kwara State; and several Sarkin Fulani representatives from across the state.
