वहीं, पूर्व @BBCHindi पत्रकार हुदा जरीवाला को सहारनपुर मस्जिद विध्वंस पर सवाल उठाने और मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ जी की कार्यशैली की आलोचना करने पर यूपी पुलिस द्वारा गिरफ्तार कर जेल भेजे जाने की खबर भी बेहद चिंताजनक है।

महिला पत्रकारों ने मारपीट के संबंध में FIR दर्ज करने के लिए शिकायत दी, लेकिन अब तक कोई कार्रवाई न होना पुलिस की जवाबदेही पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े करता है। वहीं, हुदा जरीवाला की गिरफ्तारी भी प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता और सत्ता से सवाल पूछने के अधिकार पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े करती है।

संबंधित राज्य सरकारों से हमारी मांग है कि हुदा जरीवाला को तत्काल रिहा किया जाए और अगर अगले 72 घण्टो में में शाहीन ख़ान और नफ़ीसा ख़ान की शिकायत पर कार्रवाई नहीं हुई, तो मैं स्वयं साकेत पुलिस थाने के बाहर आकर शांतिपूर्ण धरना दूंगा।

मेरे पत्रकार भाइयों और बहनों से अपील है कि एकजुट होकर अपनी साथी पत्रकारों का साथ दें। आज वे हैं, कल आपकी बारी भी हो सकती है।

यह प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता और लोकतंत्र से जुड़ा गंभीर सवाल है।

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind central delegation visits Saharanpur, meets key stakeholders; resolves to pursue all legal avenues*

Saharanpur, Sept. 8, 2026: Jamiat president Maulana Mahmood Madani has expressed deep concern over the situation following the demolition of the historic Collectorate Mosque in Saharanpur. Acting on his special directions, a Jamiat Ulama-i-UP delegation visited Saharanpur on Monday. On Tuesday, a high-level central delegation of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, led by its General Secretary Maulana Muhammad Hakimuddin Qasmi, arrived in the city and reviewed the legal and social situation arising from the demolition.

The delegation met local residents, legal experts associated with the case, political figures and office-bearers of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, and held detailed consultations on the course of further legal action. It also met former MP Haji Fazlur Rahman, sitting MP Imran Masood, Firoz Khan, grandson of the late Yaqub Khan, Shah Haroon Khan, who is associated with the land in question, advocates Naushad Khan and Tanveer Ahmed, among others.

During these meetings, the circumstances surrounding the demolition, the conduct of the administration and the available legal remedies were discussed in detail. The legal team raised serious questions about the document reportedly relied upon as the basis of the judgment, stating that the document was not present in the judicial record and had not been formally placed on record. It was also pointed out that references to “Qaisar-e-Hind” or “Sarkar-e-Hind” cited in connection with the matter relate to a different khata and do not establish ownership over the disputed land.

The delegation subsequently held a detailed meeting with the lawyers to examine the various legal aspects of the case. Revenue records, historical documents relating to the mosque, claims concerning ownership and different aspects of the judicial proceedings were examined. The delegation said that a comprehensive and legally sound course of action was necessary to protect the rights of the affected parties. The possibility of approaching the higher courts and seeking appropriate legal relief is being worked out on the basis of available documents and records.

‘Every available legal avenue will be pursued’

Speaking to media persons, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind General Secretary Maulana Muhammad Hakimuddin Qasmi said all relevant legal documents and evidence were being compiled and would be placed before Jamiat president Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani. The next course of action would be decided after consultation and legal advice.

Expressing deep anguish over the demolition, Maulana Qasmi said the manner in which the action was carried out, particularly the unusual haste shown by the administration, had caused considerable concern among residents and sections committed to justice.

“An affected party cannot be denied an opportunity to defend its rights and approach the courts before such drastic action is taken,” he said. “The right to approach a court is not a mere procedural formality. It is an essential part of constitutional justice. Administrative action should not be carried out in a manner that effectively closes the door for an affected party to seek relief from a higher court.”

Maulana Qasmi said the demolition had deeply saddened people across Saharanpur and should not be viewed merely through the prism of religion or community.

“This is not simply an issue concerning one religion or one community. It concerns the rule of law, constitutional rights and the basic principles of justice,” he said.

He said Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had historically pursued questions of justice within the framework of the Constitution and the law and would continue to do so in the Saharanpur matter.

“We will knock on every available legal door. Wherever the people of Saharanpur require legal assistance in this matter, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will stand with them,” he said.
