#CD7 @psyc220 I would like to be a Child/Adolescent Therapist in the future. This field has been growing and has become more normalized due to more mental health awareness. I intend to reinforce the normality of not being okay, and that talking about issues can help(1/2).
@Pablo_Iarussi @psyc220 I agree, and because of the growing normality of therapy especially as a teen, it's super important to understand the effects of mental health. Therapists nowadays have to understand these effects on a broad and individual level to succeed. #CD7 @psyc220
One thing that may help me is that I will recognize that mental health isn't clean-cut, and everyone experiences their symptoms differently even if they suffer from the same thing. I will try my best to incorporate that ideology and personalize my sessions. (2/2) #CD7 @psyc220
@jdvick23 @psyc220 I would like to do something similar as a career path, so this would be an important topic to research for my career. I'm currently in a class called Victimization of Children, and we are learning a lot about these kinds of things there too! @psyc220 #CD7
@pagdag220 @psyc220 Forensic psychology is such an interesting and amazing career path. I think it's important we implement those things about stereotypes because truthfully, anyone is capable of anything. Good luck! #CD7 @psyc220
(2/2) this doesn't mean they all support every Democratic Policy. On TikTok, creators like @ thegayrepublicanicon explain why the left in his eyes doesn't benefit their community, and Republican policies that he favors, crushing the stereotype of all gay/bi/trans being leftists.
#CD6 @psyc220 There is a lot of discrepancy around the LGBTQ community and the intersection of their political beliefs. Most are expected to be Liberal or lean left, while there are many Conservatives LGBTQ people. Just because leftist policies support their community, (1/2)
@jackie_stanaway @psyc220 Society makes more assumptions about older people in general compared to younger people, especially in terms of technology. A lot of seniors are deemed unable to deal with it, meanwhile, a lot of older folks help on tech hotlines, and teach young kids to use it. #CD6 @psyc220
@pagdag220 @psyc220 I agree, I think that society normalizes emotional women and disregards emotional men. Men today are told to "man up" instead of expressing how they feel. I think that this problem contributes to men committing more suicide than women. #CD6 @psyc220
@jdvick23 @psyc220 Jason, I really liked how you included this historical example. It's interesting to see how much the perspective on those with disabilities has changed, but how much its also stayed the same by targeting certain groups(as inspiration porn does). #CD5b @psyc220
@pagdag220 @psyc220 Paige, I think that this is a great example of inspiration porn. It goes along with what Stella said about showcasing the disabilities of one group to make another feel grateful. Inevitably, it makes "normal" people feel like they should be doing more.#CD5b @psyc220
#CD5a @psyc220 Our campus itself creates many barriers for mobile disabled peoples.Places like East & Dukes are inaccessible. They only can be accessed through stairs/hills. There are no ramps either in replacement of stairs. There needs to be other options for disabled students
Also, the article states his win shows “people like him can get into the business”, showing that they are objectifying the disabled to prove if they can do it, so can “normal” people. https://t.co/NpqSHmbljs
“Inspiration Porn” is media used to objectify one group to benefit another. This example represents that since Todd Scanlon won a scaffolding award. In the article, Todd himself states he didn't really do anything exceptional to win, like what happened to Stella.#CD5b@psyc220
@jackie_stanaway @psyc220 Yes definitely! A lot of women are double or even triple minorities and claiming multiple minority identities along with being apart of the Feminist movement will help them take the confidence they have to make a change in Gender Equality to other oppressed groups. #CD4 @psyc220
@psyc220 #CD4 I believe many feminists are women interconnected by race, class, etc (ex, women of color). So, they are oppressed for multiple reasons. The Feminist movement can therefore inspire minority women to speak on injustices under their gender and their race.
@pagdag220 @psyc220 I think Feminism is such a large movement, whereas other minority groups may not have as much social power to fight for equality. Feminism can definitely inspire those groups to believe change is possible and allow them to confidently stand up for their rights. #psyc220#CD4
@psycd_Emilia @psyc220 Hey Emilia, I totally agree! I think that the growing concern for one minority group allows and gives confidence to other groups to build the courage to fight for change! #CD4 @psyc220
