This! As long as AI is considered as an amplifier and not as something to reduce HR costs in companies like Google, then every other company has to do the same too, just to stay competitive. Bar will be high though - and I think that many engineers will actually quit because of burn out or total lack of interest for agentic engineering.
@djn_mngs@akoskm lol, true!
AI would probably have gotten a much warmer reception when I started my career in 2009 and had to deal with WebSphere, EJB, and SOAP!
crazy how my TL went from pure excitement around lauren or Matt Pocock magic recipes to PURE DOOMING, to the point where I can barely bring myself to log on anymore, all in just a few days.
grateful to the few people trying to bring some perspective and nuance, like @antoniogm
It seems we’re now condemned to spend a week like this every 2–3 months. Can’t wait to see some optimism again soon (which doesn’t mean blind optimism!)
@GergelyOrosz Agents are like workflows before AI. Who was really using the custom workflows feature in asana or linear ? No one. Everyone was building them in zapier. The best agents are those that are very intricated to the product and that help your users without them being aware
@mattpocockuk this atypical and Kandinsky-ish cover will never leave my mind (maybe because it was both illuminating and very painful to get through all 600 pages at 25 yo!). Anyway, I see more and more old design and architect books resurfacing. Probably a sign of how our job is changing!
@barrec03 funny (or a bit sad?) how the people deploying the most advanced software in the world are actually running the deployment from an Obsidian vault, a spreadsheet and whatever they can keep in their head
curious whether this will be an open weights model or a closed one
ByteDance’s CEO explicitly asked not to distill open-weight models so I’m wondering which direction they'll take
first time I actually feel what MIT engineers felt in 1960, punching a stack of cards, handing it to the mainframe operators, and waiting to find out if the program they'd spent hours thinking about worked. Except now it's with Claude Code!
@rauchg Our data at Tandem (https://t.co/88CYbikGu1) backs this up hard
We're watching the shift happen in real time: users don't want instructions anymore, they want the action done for them. "Don't tell me what to do, do it for me." This pattern barely existed 6 months ago
@NetlifySupport Hi team, we're getting 502 errors from the proxy of our webapp. The proxy app is healthy so we don't know what is going wrong. This is severely impairing our business right now, could you please help us?
