Today in math class we are using my trip to the strawberry farm to make a mathematical decision for what was the best purchase option. #iteachmath#thinkingclassroom
We had a fun day in math today! We calculated the probability of my own children leaving an event happy. Students were very engaged and thoughtful to suggest a bag of cotton candy may fix any disappointment! #iteachmath
Warm up question of the day, “What do you call a snake that measures 3.14 meters long?”… a Pi-thon! The genuine giggles of a few totally made the day! #iteachmath
Can a 7th grader keep pace with a gold medalist for 30 meters? The answer was shocking to many, that even at a full sprint they could only keep up with the marathoner. #thinkingclassroom#iteachmath
I’d love to clean this up to make this into a #thinkingtask. I know there are some similar tasks out there. A similar video may produce more wonderings or engagement. I am wondering how much money was spent at concessions for a snake that long.
I don’t know why this is bugging me so much, but this seems like a minuscule amount of juice to be bragging about even for flavored water. How many slices of each would you put in? How does it compare these amounts? #iteachmath
After my morning workout, I looked at my history of meters rowed and my math teacher brain kicked in. What do you notice/wonder? Is there any correlation/causation between dates and meters? What might the next 6 months of meters rowed look like? #iteachmath
Finally tried 2 students for 1 computer for my @desmosclassroom lesson today. Students did not disappoint. Heard lots of great ideas being shared. Not sure why it took me so long to try it out.
My wife and I have very different opinions on how to handle this situation. I am glad to so see students agree more with me! What would you do? #iteachmath
I edited the data and activity from @desmosclassroom culminating Unit 3 Describing Data activity to meet student interests. I think I may have had more fun looking for correlations in Jayson Tatum's data. #iteachmath https://t.co/YnmPHxScnk
What are your best strategies to have students stop number plucking and make sense of a problem? I have been trying to give more thinking tasks and numberless word problems but feel like I am still doing too much lifting. Do I just need to be more patient? #iteachmath
Loved using the stronger and clearer routine when introducing circles today using the @desmosclassroom curriculum. Students showed so much persistence and growth. I also love playing the "dummy" and trying to create exactly what they write.
I’ve had an internal conflict for years about constant of proportionality and how to best support student thinking. What are your next moves to students who do this thinking below? What is right, where do they have a misconception? #iteachmath#mtbos
