Hearing a Barred Owl calling is a great way to start a new month.

And it is @mddcbba3 season so I get to count it for the breeding bird survey.

Nesting nighthawks have declined so much in Maryland and DC they have nearly disappeared.

If you see one doing a wing boom display, note that in your checklist comments—it’s *excellent* evidence of breeding!
