Today is another example of how we convey the weather message with alerts needs to be better. The Eastern Shore of MD is not under a Heat Advisory, but the Western shore is. Both areas are experiencing the exact same temps and heat indices. Any insight from @NWS@NWS_MountHolly ?
@tuckerweather So by the time the front did come through in the evening hours, and wind gusts of 50-70mph were causing damage and power outages, it kind of caught some of the general public by surprise… they thought it was done because their fav forecaster said it was a bust earlier in the day
@tuckerweather Forecasters and Mets kind of shot themselves in the foot by mid afternoon saying they were wrong and it was a busted forecast when in reality, we were not done yet. The front still had to come through. I believe this led to the public letting their guard down thinking it was over
Turns out, I was right about this… HOWEVER, we are not out of the woods just yet. I think the front tonight has more potential for damage along it with straight line winds. The squall/front tonight has always been my concern.
Why am I sensing a bust today in the Mid Atlantic? Storms? Yes, but I don’t think as significant as most are making it out to be. Not even sure the moderate risk is needed… at least in MD anyway.

@JustinWeather Same in Queen Anne’s county… Barclay. Changed to snow about 1 this afternoon. Already about an inch on the ground. Roads starting to stick too. HUGE flakes falling moderately to heavily.
@NWS_MountHolly Between Barclay and Sudlersville. Just changed over to snow about 15 minutes ago. Huge flakes falling and 33 degrees on my Tempest weather station.
Snow is already making it to the surface in Talbot and Caroline counties… right where the heavy precip is showing up on radar as rain. It’s actually moderate snow. Confirmed by the MDOT Denton camera.
@crazywx_politic Depends on what you look at… I wouldn’t say the GFS is an outlier when the NAM and even GRAF are showing similar outcomes. Cant focus so much on the 10:1 snow maps they print out. The track the GFS has is similar to other models now. GFS had this track for a long time.
@SteveOweathaguy@Mondzyabizness Agree with this and it’s exactly what I’ve been saying. Regardless of the GFS performance, the Euro has not been that great either. So tired of hearing about “king Euro” when in reality, ALL models have sucked lately.
Under 80 hours from a storm and still decent uncertainty is wild in 2026 with today’s tech. Models lately have sucked… all of them. Even your beloved “king Euro”.
