Today I went to the Cobb County (Georgia) shelter to record a freedom ride video… and then I met Apollo.

I walked past his kennel and he was fast asleep on the concrete floor. Deep, peaceful sleep. In a shelter that is constantly loud, that kind of sleep is rare. I came back later and he had moved to his bed, still sleeping just as deeply. I opened his kennel and gently called his name. He didn’t wake up at first. When he finally did, he looked at me with the sweetest eyes and slowly walked toward me, tail wagging.

The moment I took Apollo outside, I was completely in love.

Apollo is house trained, good with kids, good with dogs, and even good with cats. He walks beautifully on a leash and is known as a big baby that everyone absolutely adores. He is neutered and ready to go home today. A Great Dane Lab mix, he is a big boy with the heart of a teddy bear.

What breaks my heart most is his story. Apollo was adopted from this exact shelter three years ago. Now he is back because his family could no longer afford to care for him. He doesn’t understand why he is here again. Dogs who sleep this deeply in the shelter are often depressed, and with the shelter getting more crowded, owner surrenders always worry me the most.

Apollo is an incredible dog who deserves another chance. He would make any family so happy. If you have room in your heart and home, please hurry to the shelter and take Apollo home.
