@hubie887@burlivespipe@taj1944 I agree with that! Cootes is a fantastic prospect. I really like Mynio. Would be great to be able to find some great prospects for the Dub.
I don’t really understand the criticism of Harvey’s amateur scouting. Since taking over, the Canucks have added Cootes, Willander, and Lekky in the first round, while also finding legitimate prospects outside the first round like EP25 (3rd), Kudryavtsev (7th), Mynio (3rd), Patterson (4th), Chiarot (6th), Ty Mueller (4th), and Romani (6th).
I’m not saying every one of those players becomes an NHL regular, but there’s a lot of promise there, especially considering where they were drafted.
If we’re looking for the root of the Canucks issues over the last five years, I’m not convinced amateur scouting is anywhere near the top of the list. The bigger question is whether the organization pushed its chips in too early trying to compete instead of committing to a proper rebuild 10 years ago. That’s an ownership/manament strategy issue, not a scouting issue.
We just need more pieces at the top end of the draft to ensure a bright future. It would be nice to have a top end analytics guy mixed in with scouting background. We can only see where it goes. Only time can tell.
@DomSramaty That’s ridiculous. You don’t need to be doing deals like this in a Rebuild. Maybe in 5 years, but you don’t have a player like Ohgren in our system. Hes still very young. You need players like him.
Dave, I know it’s not NHL 26, but I wonder if Hronek would waive to go to SJ. If the 2nd overall pick is truly in play. You could package up something else to go with Hronek(SJ 2nd? Maybe our 2nd). But if Parayko went for Radim Mrtka and a 1st rounder (until it was vetoed) hronek would have similar value.
@F_Pepperminten@TCalauttis@mflo77 Totally agree. But again, every team is different in what they can give up vs what gets a deal done. If one of their guys ain’t apart of the deal, no way Van does that deal. Other teams are looking. San Jose or Chicago would be interesting.
