@Car_Guy_Tom Three of the four were decent. Nova and Ventura for the heritage, Omega for the alliteration. But Apollo? Not sure how Buick came up with that.
@Car_Guy_Tom IIRC, it was Alan Mulally who ordered the Taurus name be resurrected to rebrand the Ford 500 to bestow some cachet on the car. Perhaps his memo included recycling Sable, too.
Last week it was a Montego, this week a lovely Mercury Sable with its clear tail light lenses. For its final two years an odd change of names and slight styling update ushering the car and the brand off the stage. #CarSpotter#Mercury#Sable
@Car_Guy_Tom For me, these and the BMW 6-series coupes were among the most head-turning cars in the mid to late 1970s. The BMWs more athletic, the Mercedes more dignified.
@Car_Guy_Tom Pontiac LeMans, hands down. Last gen. Nova and Montego were actually pretty decent cars in their own right and the new Prelude is too soon to tell.
Third (and final) gen.Mercury Montego spotted in Beloit, Wis. Extremely clean for a car at least 20 y.o. Sold fewer than 65k units over its 4 yr run. Rec'd a mild refresh and rebadged as the Sable for its last 2 model years before Mercury was dc'd. #CarSpotter#Mercury#Montego
@Car_Guy_Tom Nice KG. Couldn't be from the upper midwest or it would have rusted out long ago. Had one in college, near the end of its life. Lovely cars but not as much fun to drive as you'd think.
@Car_Guy_Tom That was the best generation MR2, as I understand. Great styling, though I like the 3rd gen's baby Boxster look better. Hard to believe Toyota was ever that daring.
@Car_Guy_Tom@RichC They'll also never know the sloppy handling and braking performance. And they won't miss the frequent and expensive refueling. Tradeoffs.
