UPDATE: After landing in LA today to transfer Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive Ryan Wedding, our FBI/DOJ teams are now landing in Charlotte, NC to transfer another - Alejandro Castillo - the Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive arrested one week ago today in Mexico.

Castillo’s quick return to the States from Mexico wouldn’t have been possible without President Trump’s and @AGPamBondi’s leadership. Mexico Ambassador Ron Johnson, Legat Mexico, the State Department, and many more great partners were instrumental in this effort as well.

Castillo was on the run in Mexico for nearly 10 years, wanted by the state of North Carolina on charges for the murder of his former coworker, 23 year old Sandy Ly Le.

In August of 2016, Ly Le’s body was found in a wooded area of Cabarrus County, NC. Her vehicle was located at a bus station in Phoenix, Arizona - and Castillo was spotted on video crossing the border from Nogales, Arizona into Mexico one day later. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Castillo in February 2017.

Today, he is being transferred back to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg authorities with @FBICharlotte to face justice.

Collectively, this is the SIXTH Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive captured in just one year under President Trump and this FBI/DOJ - two more than the previous four years combined - and the SECOND Top Ten Most Wanted transfer from Mexico we’ve made in a single day.

Sandy Ly Lee was a first generation college graduate who had her whole life ahead of her. Her family will never get their daughter back - but I hope today can help further the healing process and bring them peace in knowing that her alleged killer will face justice.

It’s a huge day for law and order in America.

CMPD K-9 Officer Brent Simpson passed away today from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officer Simpson was a graduate of the 148th Recruit Class and served with CMPD since 2006. Most recently, Officer Simpson was assigned to the K-9 unit and faithfully served alongside his K-9 partner, Levi, for six years. Prior to joining CMPD, Officer Simpson served in the U.S. Navy as an Operation Specialist with the Military Police for four years.

His life and service will never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for Officer Simpson's loved ones and fellow officers during this difficult time.

On Monday, April 15, North Tryon Division Officer Joshua Eyer was awarded Officer of the Month for his outstanding proactive policing efforts patrolling the areas of Sugar Creek, North Tryon Street & the I-85 corridor. Officer Eyer worked diligently to address quality of life concerns within these corridors, assisting the community and local business owners. In the span of just three weeks before receiving this award, Officer Eyer and fellow North Tryon Division Officer Aubrey Guldager made 16 arrests with 14 of those linked to felony cases involving charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Attempted First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Common Law Robbery as well as various drug-related felonies and property crimes.

These arrests made an incredible impact on local crime and quality of life concerns. This is just a small glimpse at Officer Eyer’s dedication to his work and his commitment to protecting and serving the City of Charlotte. He was a phenomenal officer and the epitome of what our officers and all law enforcement strive to be each and every day. We ask that you continue to keep Officer Eyer’s family in your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support for our CMPD officers and staff who continue to serve our community during this devastating time.

He fought for several hours and passed away from his injuries with his wife and family by his side tonight. Officer Eyer was 6-year veteran with the CMPD, and I am truly grateful for his bravery, service and ultimate sacrifice. He will never be forgotten, and we are forever indebted.
