Arnab, take notes. Sonal just showed how journalism is done. 🔥
From Washington to Seoul, people protest at power's doorstep.
The BJP can't treat protest space as a favour. Yet CJP activists were jailed after unfurling the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar.
This past weekend, thousands of anti-government protesters were arrested in New Delhi. A movement that began several months ago, and was initially focussed on demands to reform India’s education system, has now centered itself around the government’s decision to remove more than 100 million people from the country’s voter rolls. “By sheer numbers, this is one of the largest-ever exercises of disenfranchisement in the history of the world,” Yogendra Yadav, an activist and political scientist says. Every democracy has an address for dissent… close to centres of power where discontent is visible

How can the Election Commission of India (ECI) say that it has lost its record? Your whole purpose is to hold an election, and you need to have a document. Where is the question of you saying, ‘Yeah, we are trying to trace it’? You gave it to the elected candidate. There is no custody of records. Whatever you have, produce it on the next date. Otherwise, we will have to draw an adverse inference against you. We will not accept these kinds of lame excuses: Supreme Court to ECI after its counsel says the original video recording of recounting cannot be traced in the election dispute between Congress leader TD Rajegowda and BJP’s DN Jeevaraja.
As has been said (by John Curran, Wendell Philips and by Thomas Jefferson) “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty” and this fight against illegal disenfranchisement of 13.30 crore people is the fight for democracy – which is the foundation of liberty.
I had pointed out in my tweet of 5th October that the right to assemble peaceably and without arms was a fundamental right under Article 19 of the constitution. No law or Executive order can negate it or make it infructuous. The order of the ruling party — that protests/demonstrations will be allowed only at remote places has the effect of negating this fundamental right – making it infructuous. They might as well say that people are free to agitate in the Thar desert. Demonstrations are held by common people to convey to the people they have elected to office that they are acting against the public interest/national interest. This order tramples on people's rights. The relevant question is not whether the ruling party may designate another site for the protest instead of Jantar Mantar; but whether there were any cogent grounds for changing the site at Jantar Mantar which has been the designated site for assemblies and demonstrations for long years past. There can be no cogent ground for changing a site which has been so long-standing. This is clearly a mala fide attempt at negating a right guaranteed by the Constitution.
That’s my leader Rahul Gandhi
A unifier - who stands up for everyone - each time.
To all fellow fighters of our democracy and our right to vote - Rahul Gandhi has your back.
Jantar Mantar belongs to the people of India - and it will be reclaimed. ✊👊🇮🇳

Journalist from West Bengal, please get it confirmed from the CEO of West Bengal what is the fate for those whose names have been deleted under logical discrepancy and are with the tribunals. Will they be added through the form 6 ? @CEOWestBengal
I asked addition CEO of @CEOWestBengal whether anyone deleted by judicial officials can appeal through Form 6. He categorically denied. But at least 2 in 86 Santipur Assembly are back in the roll through Form 6. What’s happening here? #SIR
A historic day on Delhi’s streets.
A sea of citizens walked towards the Supreme Court to defend democracy.
Now we clean up, rest, and return tomorrow. 🇮🇳❤️
The 13 crore disenfranchised people -- especially over 3 lakh in Assam (1997 SIR) & over 20 lakh in Bengal--should be at the heart and core of this anti-CEC movement.
Only the Bengali Muslim deleted voters are being sent to detention centres & getting expelled to Bangladesh!
Exactly Adil bhai, Here in Goalpokhar and Islampur the BLO doesn't have any clear instructions for those deleted and are under tribunal, majority of them are deleted under adjudication.
I don’t think executive action can supersede judicial orders by SC on Bengal SIR and tribunals. It is only the ASDD list that the CEO Bengal has published who would be included back through this. Not the logical discrepancy cases pending before tribunal!
Til the INDIA bloc solve the logical discrepancy issue & the pending tribunal cases in Bengal which concern around 22 lakh genuine voters, their legal or political battle will remained unsuccessful against CEC. Real test is not Delhi or other states for SIR, but West Bengal!
