It’s easy to say it’s not my problem. Both Kyle and protesters had arguably good intentions that night. But note it’s the protesters that attacked him.

He showed courage in an urban war zone, achieved protecting & revitalizing, avoided firing until he had no choice. Seems to fit the definition.

Him protecting himself is an example of one of the most basic principles in the US—you may defend yourself and others from imminent threats of bodily harm or death.
