Michigan Democrats recognized the need for common-sense gun safety reform, and they got it done. Thank you to @GovWhitmer, @MIHouseDems and @MISenDems for making communities much safer for all Michigaders.
Abortion is not murder, it’s health care. Michiganders from both parties made clear they support a woman’s right to choose when they voted to protect that right in our state’s constitution. To equate abortion to murder is ignorant, false, and dangerous.
Today, Michigan Democrats delivered and working families won. Every worker deserves the right to collectively bargain and every worker deserves to be paid a fair wage, and House Democrats took us one step closer to restoring those basic rights in Michigan.
In 2022, voters made their voices heard loud and clear: they want to protect the right to choose. I’m proud of Democrats in the Michigan legislature for repealing the 1931 abortion ban and standing against Republicans who have doubled down on their support for the extremist law.
Basic protections for LGBTQ+ Michiganders are long overdue. I’m thrilled that the House has voted to expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, and shame on the Republicans who voted to deny the LGBTQ+ community equal protection under the law.
Lavora Barnes is reelected chair of the Michigan Democratic Chair for a third term by acclimation vote.
It was solidly unanimous. When nays were called there was utter silence in the convention hall.
The hardest working Chair in the nation, former Executive Director too, @LavoraBarnes receives the Don Fowler leadership award. So very well deserved. @MichiganDems , @DemStateParties and the nation is so well served by this amazing woman. @kenmartin73
Corporations are not people.
Yet 13 years ago today SCOTUS gave companies the same 1st amendment rights as people - and the right to spend unlimited anonymous $$ to influence politicians.
I believe unlimited, anonymous corporate spending corrupts our democracy. RT if you agree.
I am very pleased to announce that State Representative @JasonMorganMI and State Senator @SenErikaGeiss are joining my slate for the MDP leadership elections this February as candidates for the two Vice Chair positions.
Tonight, the most valuable people on twitter are you lurkers, the silent shy folk who may also hang out with regular (non-political) folks. If you tweet out #VoteBlueTomorrow you very well might swing a tight race.
