🩸 BLOODY PLEURAL EFFUSION (PF)? 🫁

Check the PF hematocrit!
📘Murray 7e: (estimated PF Hct) = PF RBC / serum Hct
📕HPIM21e: Serum Hct / PF Hct

If serum Hct/PF Hct:
⭐️<1% = no significance
⭐️1-50% = 1) malignancy 2) pulmo-embo 3) traumatic
⭐️>50% = HEMOTHORAX -> put chest tube
