The man who pulled the trigger, Gnassingbé Eyadéma, became Togo's dictator for the next 38 years. His son runs Togo today. And the money stayed in the French account. France was not Africa's former colonizer. France was the landlord who handed you the keys and kept a copy. Independence was just the invoice.
