Behind the Mystery:

One of my favorite scenes in The Trumpet's Call takes place beneath the Arch of Titus in Rome. As Mazetti and Claudia search the ancient monument for clues, they're unexpectedly "adopted" by an inquisitive little black kitten who decides to join the investigation.

Every time I visit the Arch of Titus, I can't help but picture that scene unfolding. And when I get home, my own black cat, Olive, reminds me that perhaps fictional kittens aren't so fictional after all. Anyone who shares a home with a black cat knows exactly how that happens—you don't choose the cat. The cat chooses you. Mine certainly did.

It's moments like these—standing in places where history was made and then bringing a little piece of real life into the story—that make writing this series so much fun. 🐈‍⬛

I'm often asked what inspired the premise of our first book - Agrippa's Map. What drew us to write Agrippa's Map wasn’t just the mystery — it was the history behind it.

As a historian, I’ve always been fascinated by the relationship between Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Augustus. Agrippa wasn’t simply a general serving an emperor. He was Augustus’s childhood friend, trusted adviser, and the man who helped shape the Roman world.

One detail especially stayed with me:

Augustus commissioned Agrippa to create a map of the known world — a monumental project intended to display the reach of Rome itself. But Agrippa died before it was completed. Augustus and Agrippa’s sister finished the work and placed it on a public monument for all of Rome to see.

And then… it vanished.

The original map was lost to history. No surviving copy has ever been found.

That unanswered question became the spark behind Agrippa’s Map.

What if the map survived?
What if someone found it?
And what if people were willing to kill for it?

That idea became the beginning of Detective Angelo Mazetti’s first adventure — a modern murder mystery tied to one of history’s greatest lost artifacts.
