Saw this on one of my Whatsapp groups.

EKEDC IN DESPERATION
_____
I installed an 18kW solar power system at my property in Lekki Phase 1, relegating EKEDC supply to a backup status. Since then, I have been having more frequent visits from personnel of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), coming to check my prepaid meter.

On one of those visits, the EKEDC team stood watching the meter for motion to indicate consumption. When the meter wasn't moving, they called me to say they suspected I had bypassed the meter. I told them I had enough solar power for my daytime needs and only used their supply as a backup for the dark hours. To prove this to them, I switched on my inverter bypass for about 2 minutes so my consumption would be from EKEDC. They saw the meter rotating normally. They were visibly upset and one of them mumbled something like "This ọ̀gá no wan gree us chop". They left.

Today (19-Oct-2026), three of them came to my premises with a notice of disconnection. The last time I loaded an EKEDC token was in July 2026 and I still had ample units left. When I asked why they would disconnect me, they said the reason was "LOR" (Loss of Revenue). They said my slow consumption indicates a faulty meter and I had to pay them ₦112,606 for loss of revenue.

I told them my meter was not faulty and that they could test it if they wanted. The lady said they were losing revenue and they had to make up for it.

I didn't know whether to laugh or to be angry. I have no intention of paying EKEDC a dime for its loss of revenue due to my taking steps to protect my interest.

But, I share this story for all who are investing in solar power to know that the DisCos are now desperate. They now have "Loss of Revenue" as a reason for your disconnection from their supply. It is simply that they are not making enough money from you.

I am waiting for EKEDC to disconnect me from their grid before I lodge a formal complaint to the regulatory authority.

We are in interesting times in Nigeria!

I wish this video can be translated from Yoruba to English. It’s a shame we don’t have a national language.

These are Yorubas calling out the useless “elders.”

There’s a particular reason loan companies in Nigeria are comfortable giving out millions of naira to people they’ve never met, and once you understand how their business model works, you’ll begin to see the entire lending industry differently.

Think about it. OPay and other loan companies are practically begging people to borrow money. Meanwhile, some Nigerians owe three or four different loan apps at the same time. How do these companies calculate their risks? What happens when someone collects the money and disappears? And who exactly is making all the money in this equation?

The more you think about it, the more you realise that some of the biggest businesses in the world are built around things most people barely understand. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes, and sometimes the most obvious explanation isn’t necessarily the whole story.

Anyway, have you noticed that people who wear glasses always seem to know exactly where their glasses are, until the moment they actually need them? You can spend ten minutes searching the entire house, checking under your pillow, looking inside the fridge, and accusing everybody around you of moving your things.

Only for you to discover that the glasses have been sitting on your head the entire time. 😭

In 1998, a woman stopped Shaquille O’Neal outside an arena and told him his sneakers cost too much for kids. He took $2,000 out of his pocket and handed it to her. She slapped it out of his hand. That same day he walked away from a $40 million deal and went off to make a $20 shoe.

He tells it himself in the video below.

He was leaving the building. She started on him before he reached the car.

“You’re charging these babies all this money for the shoes.”

He had about $2,000 on him. He pulled it out.

“Ma’am, I don’t make the prices. Here you go.”

She slapped the money out of his hand and kept going. Why wouldn’t you make a shoe that’s affordable.

On the table at that moment was a Reebok deal. Forty million over five years.

“I thought about it. I was like, you know what, she’s right.”

“So that day, cut ties with Reebok, starting my own brand.”

He did not negotiate a payout.

“I told them: keep the money. I don’t want to make it a fight. I’ll still wear the shoes during the season.”

Then he went to Walmart. The new shoes were priced at $29 and $19.

He also took Reebok’s designers with him.

“It’s not that kids don’t want to wear 20 dollar shoes. They don’t want to wear shoes that look like they cost 20.”

“I don’t care how much money I lose. Make these kids look good.”

He says the line has now sold more than 400 million pairs.

Twenty-three years after he walked out, the company he is part of bought Reebok.

He gave up $40 million rather than keep selling a shoe a mother could not afford.

Would you have taken the forty?

This is the first house owned by a rich Nigerian that I’ve seen with so much personality. In fact, this is the only house I’ve seen in Nigeria that justifies the kind of prices Ola of Lagos and other realtors are slamming on houses in Lagos and Abuja.

Look at the 100-year-old wood, the textured walls, the natural lighting, the trees, and so much more. This is the first Nigerian house I’ve seen in recent times with so much character.

I need that US YouTuber who came to review that house in Lagos the other day to come and review this one too. The world needs to see this!

Mind you, this man also owns KAP Film Village, which is arguably one of the best places for vacation and tourism in Nigeria. His taste is so distinctive. I rate it.
