@JetVega@_SpyDtroid_ Iirc, Reeve did it personally in the original game.
Gave us a funny localization quirk from Cait Sith: "Elmyra was cried herself silly"
@stickmanbill_1@yorksoriginal 7 is my favorite. There starting points are the original FF7 or FF7 Remake.
It's best to think of Remake as a different game from the original.
I started with Remake, fantastic default to get invested if you're unsure. But if you're feeling it, the original is a great start.
@stickmanbill_1 100% That's usually the one I recommend people to start with. That one can be a little abrasive to existing Final Fantasy fans, but I think it's the easiest one to swallow for anyone new to the series.
I like some of the other games better, but they can be more acquired tastes.
@EtoileNuage Not only that, they've also folded in the experience of the developers, who had to contend with whether to change the story and risk destroying it, or accept it as it is and improve it from there.
We have all these struggles in parallel and the game likes to nod at that fact.
@handlebardev I mean this in a good way, it looks like the type of thing you could display behind one of those YouTube shorts that read Reddit posts.
Dunno what value that'd have for marketing it, but probably not 0.
@ciethtears Not only that, I want to explore each one more deeply than anyone before me.
I never get people that are like "Yeah it'd be cool to live to 200 but any more is just too much." I could probably pass a happy millennium or two just speedrunning Super Mario 64.
@areheon I try not to do stuff like that just for roleplaying purposes, because it'd be weird to go around exhausting everyone's dialogue tree in real life.
I actually tried that once, surprisingly effective way to make friends for anyone who struggles with that type of thing.
@SonicHero3D The zaniness is fun for sure, but Rebirth has moments where it kinda loses the competence vibe I liked from Remake. Like in Junon when you slip into the Shinra military.
@SonicHero3D One other thing I'll say for Remake, it's fantastic at making the world feel competent and imposing, especially Shinra.
I mean this kinda like how early Spongebob seasons were more grounded and rational even with its zany bits, while in new ones all the "NPCs" are zany to the 11
@veralette I was lukewarm on FFX the first time I played it. I've played it 3 times now, twice HD, once PS2 (screenshots don't do it justice, so much is screwy with the HD port).
It's one of those games that gets better the longer it sits with you. It's one of my favorites now.
@tquasamu If you play Crisis Core so soon, the best twists of FF7 are revealed so casually they don't seem like twists.
It's fine to do that, but understand:
1. OG FF7 will be totally spoiled.
2. FF7 Rebirth will be a little extra confusing.
3. FF7 Revelation may still use those twists.
@sammylee_0 7 for sure.
I have to say though, a lot of FF games are the kind of game where I gain appreciation as I replay them more and learn more about them. I'm not sure I'd want to erase that.
I think 7 is the only one where I value the novelty and unexpectedness enough to start over.
@churchoftifa I'm a couple years into my FF addiction now. Some suggestions:
FF8 is amazing but you should probably use a guide.
FF4 is simple and short, but I unironically have moments where I feel like it's my favorite one.
FF16 is one of my favorites, it has plenty of spectacle.
@SMOKINGCHAIN97 I finished it the other day. Not really a game I'd recommend to others, but it's definitely a work of art.
Speedup is a must imo, the gambit system works so well with 4x speed.
Just out of curiosity, how far did you get the first time?
@RetroDirkGaming@jplaysnintendo I've wanted to try carefully spacing out my progress on each game so that I can play a variety, and still finish games as often as if I played one at a time.
For example, if I'm playing 6 games, I'd always be at least 5/6 of the way done with one of them.
@FF8_Garden Insane how well the prerendered graphics holds up.
Obviously its limited, but in a stylized way that you could still imagine someone doing on purpose today.
@femiiiszn I think explicit definitions are a bit overrated anyways. They only approximately describe the way the word is used, but even approximate standards are good to have as a fallback when people start disagreeing.
That's my sense anyway.
