i was a co-founder of Banksy. i’ve never said that publicly, and to my knowledge, nobody else has either. but it’s true.
before the infamous stencils started appearing around Bristol, i was already working on underground street art projects. when Robin told me he believed he was the best person in the world to bring it mainstream, i agreed. his unique blend of skills - an elite visionary with a deep understanding of street art culture and a knack for maintaining anonymity - made him perfect for the task. he is a true artist.
after our initial pieces went up, momentum was slow. at times, i created unauthorized installations to stimulate broader engagement, hoping to energize the scene. Robin asked if i did it, and i’d lie and say no.
then it happened - suddenly, the whole world cared. the weight of that attention was overwhelming, but it was an incredible experience that transformed my life in ways i’m still processing, both good and bad.
i left in April 2007. maybe i’ll share more details someday. i just needed to get this off my chest.
