This chapter dropped a very strong hint, and this is where you realize the greatness of translation and quality because most One Piece fans completely overlooked this.

There is a striking similarity between two words:

覇気 = Haki
魔気 = Maki

Unfortunately, Maki was translated as Omen, or a sinister foreboding. While that isn’t technically a linguistic mistake, since many English translators relied on standard meaning!

It arguably erased one of «Oda’s terrifying wordplays», something likely only native Japanese speakers would fully catch.

Because there is a powerful parallel between the two words:

覇 (Ha) = dominance, supremacy, overwhelming power (in a positive sense)
魔 (Ma) = demonic aura, darkness, cursed or ominous force
And both share 気 (Ki) = spiritual energy, life force

What if Haki was something Joy Boy developed as a counterforce against Imu’s Maki?

That would explain how Joy Boy’s Haki was able to repel the Gorosei, wound Imu, and even make her gasp under the pressure of his Haki during the Egghead Arc.

What if Joy Boy spread Haki among humans so they could resist not only Devil Fruit powers, but also Imu’s demonic abilities?

And what if the highest form of Haki “Conqueror’s Haki” belongs only to certain bloodlines and races…

…and that is why Imu seeks to purge them from the earth through extermination, in order to create his own world?

The Black Flames that Imu conjures are called Omen the Kanji is written as “魔気” which translates to “Demonic Power” which can be read as “Maki”

Imu uses Maki (Demonic Power) while others use Haki 覇気 (Will Power)… Is this our introduction to evil haki 🤯

In ch. 1045, Kaido tells Luffy: “Given that you’re transferring your rubber powers into other things, I can interpret this as the awakening of your Paramecia powers, but something doesn’t add up. Body transformations are the trademark of Zoan powers!”

In ch. 1178, Chopper transforms into Monster Point, which fits with his Zoan Devil fruit. However, the fact that he seems to transfer his powers to others and expel demons from the Domi Reversi Giants feels more like Paramecia abilities. Chopper’s Devil fruit honestly screams Mythical Zoan, and the Rumble Balls kind of push him into an awakened state.

The Gorosei seem really worried about Imu pulling up in his real body, which I assume was damaged from his fight vs Joyboy & Davy Jones. He’s been coughing blood, so he’s clearly heavily injured, and that shadow form he’s been using this whole time seems like some sort of low power mode to conserve energy or lifespan for this specific fight vs Nika & Nidhoggr. #ONEPIECE1179

In Ch. 1044 Luffy’s Drums of Liberation are portrayed as WHITE, while in Ch. 1179, Imu’s music is depicted as BLACK. I think Imu’s heart represents the opposite of the Drums of Liberation! he might have the Drums of Oppression!! HOLY SHIT!! ODA COOKED!! #ONEPIECE1179
