@TheRetroSlayer I sometimes wonder if it was at least in part an inspiration for Dragon Quest. Quite a few curious similarities between the two.

@oz_shiron There were quite a few in fact, starting with Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996), followed by Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001). Both surprisingly good for direct-to-video releases. There were several more after that, and even a TV series, but I haven't seen any of those yet.
