Democracy has been restored in West Bengal in the truest sense.

On Tuesday, CPI(M) leader Minakshi Mukherjee met Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari along with families associated with the CPI(M) who had suffered political violence over the years but were denied justice.

Among them was Dipankar Das.

In 2018, during the Panchayat elections, Dipankar was returning home from work carrying his mother’s favourite ice cream. As he reached home, he was confronted with a scene no son should ever have to witness.

His parents, Debu Das and Usha Das, targeted for their political affiliation with the CPI(M), had been brutally murdered after being tied up and set on fire.

Refusing to give up, Dipankar went on to study law and dedicated himself to the pursuit of justice. Yet for years, despite legal battles and court proceedings, justice remained elusive.

However, after the BJP government assumed office in West Bengal, the wheels of justice finally began to turn. Yesterday, ten persons allegedly involved in this brutal double murder were arrested.

This is the power of a double-engine government.

A government that does not view victims through the prism of political affiliation, but through the lens of justice.
