Over 300 athletes aged 18-91 from 11 teams and those competing “unattached” participated in the Maine Corporate Track Association’s 2023 season this summer. Look forward to you joining us in 2024 - start talking to your coworkers and put together a team for next year.
Congratulations to BIW assistant general counsel Matt Gildart, who won the Cheryl Gilbert Award for Outstanding Team Captain at the @MECTAtrackfield State Championship last week! Matt is the captain of the BIW team and the current MECTA president.
Fun fact: The Bath Iron Works and Unum corporate track teams actually predate MECTA’s creation in 1987. Those two companies have competed in every season. Who has the 3rd most seasons? That would L.L.Bean which just completed its 24th season. Members of the 2023 team pictured.

MECTA’s newest team, Abbott, broke a couple of old records. Rachael Bourget broke a 24 year old mark in the W18-29 discus, and was soon joined in the record books by teammate Jamie Ruginski who leapt past the 22 year old record in the M30-39 long jump. Congratulations to all!
Mary Pardi of Unum took 33 seconds off the MECTA record in the 3200, but Sheri Piers, competing unattached, had claimed the overall record just 9 seconds earlier with a time of 11:54.6. Fast running on hot & humid night.
Did you know that those competing “unattached” to a team can set records in MECTA? MECTA will keep a record for MECTA team members, but also list an overall record. Thieve are numerous examples on our record page, but rarely have two people broken the record in the same race.
Kela Fetters of IDEXX smashed the W18-29 record in the 300 hurdles taking 8 seconds off the old mark to make her the fastest female at that distance in league history.
The mother/son combo from MaineHealth did it again as Barbara LaVallee and Elijah Yeboah each lowered their own league records in the 300m hurdles. Teammate Art Cunningham established a new mark in the event for M70-79.
