It is a great experience to host our 3rd consecutive SIU Day activity. This year, we hosted lab tours for two groups of high school students (~25 students). We hope this experience will spark their curiosity and inspire them in STEM education and research.
Sabita's paper on "Artificial Intelligence‐Empowered Single‐Cell Phenotyping for Rapid, Automated Pathogen Diagnostics" has been published in Advanced Science. Check it out here: https://t.co/FnK91CPupA. Congradulations!
Our collaboration with Dr. Schwartz, Professor and Chair of Urology at SIU Medicine, to develop a rapid UTI diagnostic platform was recognized with a Concept Development Award from SIU Medicine. https://t.co/Xlc9530ET9 Thanks for the support!
Anadil Faruque successfully defended her Master's thesis on "A self-actuating, magnetic microfluidic platform for rapid colorimetric & fluorescence pathogen detection and AST at the point-of-care UTI diagnosis". Anadil has accepted an offer to pursue Phd at NC State University.
IIN Fellowship
Dr. Li has been selected as an Illinois Innovation Network Fellow. He will study to bridge the gap between an academic prototype and a commercially viable medical product.
At the IEEE Nanomed Conference, Dr. Li showcased rapid pathogen diagnostic techniques. Our AI-driven single-cell analysis technology was honored as a Best Paper Finalist. Additionally, we connected with many friends and enjoyed ourselves immensely!
Dr. Li attended the Illinois Innovation Network (IIN) Sustainability and Social Innovation Research Conference.
He was recognized with an award for a collaborative project with Dr. Yu (UIUC) on developing a Point-of-Care system for HIV RNA detection. Congrats!
SIU DAY
We were excited to host high school students for a lab tour! The students were introduced to our single-cell bacterial detection techniques and the microfabrication facilities. We hope this experience will spark their curiosity and interest in STEM education and research.
Advanced Science: A paper providing insights about the rapid molecular antimicrobial susceptibility of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae has been published in Advanced Science. Congratulations to the team! Check it out here:

Dr. Li edited for a Special Issue in SLAS Technology on Advances in Precise Diagnostics and Personalized Medicine. Check it out: https://t.co/nnZEx4ywYI
Langdon B. Briles successfully defended his Master's degree. His thesis is to develop an advanced pathogen diagnosis platform toward precise antibiotic stewardship. Congratulations! Great job!
Zeba successfully defended her Master's degree. Her thesis is to develop a methodology to improve biosafety of implantable devices. Congratulations! Great job!
Big thanks to @HopkinsEngineer for sharing our new antibiotic combination screening platform! We hope this platform can identify potent combinations to improve treatments and safeguard existing antibiotics.
