The siege on Gaza must end, as must the illegal occupation, and people must resist state violence at every turn. These are questions of power and liberation, and we cannot be free until everyone is free.
The AFN is not SUTR/UAF. We are a network of independent, autonomous and grassroots groups in the community, utilising shared resources and platforms like this one. We don't work with the police, ever. Start or join a local group, be part of the network.
I’d love to think with London people about how we can support the UK communities where there isn’t the solidarity & support we have here, both in the short and long term. I’d welcome conversations with people/ orgs around the country on what you might need & how to make it happen
If you live in a city where the turnout is incredible, that is amazing. You still need to get organised so that a) your community stays that way and b) to support other towns and cities, where things aren't quite as easy.
reminder they burned effigies of Grenfell. a reminder people said our neighbours deserved to die the same way they set places of supposed safety ablaze with the intent of killing. from organised state abandonment to organised fascist violence we have no other option but to resist
Over the next few weeks we’ll be recapping some of the things our team have been up to this year. We've made a commitment to sharing our collective knowledge and learning, and providing an insight into what it’s like working on systems change. Stay tuned!
Last month, we came together as a team to co-design our communications strategy. We spent the day thinking about how we can creatively share the depth and breadth of our work at MAC-UK, in a way that feels accessible to all
JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE
Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.
After more than five years in a 2x3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.
WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people's right to know.
As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.
Julian's freedom is our freedom.
