#mediation is key, it's saves you from the time lags ina. Court room, cheaper in Costs, resolutions come from within the parties to settle a dispute. @Stabex_Ug make a well though decision to avoid a path to a court hall
🚨 Just read somewhere that a Sabex petrol station in Kisoro has paid a journalist 4 million shillings after an attendant pumped diesel into his petrol Subaru, damaging the engine.
The mistake happened at the pump, and the station chose to settle out of court rather than risk a longer legal fight.
Four million shillings is roughly 900 dollars, a painful lesson in double-checking fuel types before you fill up.
Those who know cars, is 4 million shillings enough compensation for a diesel-damaged Subaru engine???
The @JudiciaryUG has organized a #mediation fortnight commencing 28th June-July 2026. This is intended to resolved over 400 land cases in the Land division. Court Accredited Mediators will support in mediating these lands matters and expected over 75% success rate.
“Court-annexed mediation is a mandatory process for cases referred by court, requiring all parties to participate and explore amicable resolution before proceeding with litigation. The process helps parties appreciate the benefits of mediation while empowering them to develop their own practical and mutually acceptable solutions, with mediators serving as facilitators who guide discussions and help parties reach sustainable agreements rather than imposing outcomes”.

“A good mediator is guided by the principles of neutrality, impartiality, confidentiality, and integrity. They remain objective throughout the mediation process, avoid taking sides, and ensure that all parties are treated fairly and respectfully. Mediators also safeguard sensitive information shared during mediation and avoid situations where personal, professional, or financial interests may compromise their judgment. By fostering trust and creating a safe environment for dialogue, mediators empower parties to reach mutually acceptable and sustainable solutions to their disputes”.

At the heart of mediation is one principle: party self-determination.
A mediator’s role is not to decide, but to guide, ensuring that every party has the capacity to participate, understands their choices, and acts freely, without pressure or influence.
Because a resolution only holds when it is truly voluntary.

Beyond the Courtroom:A Shift Worth Noting.
The Judiciary @JudiciaryUG introduced the Court-Annexed Mediation Rules, 2026. This is more than just a procedural change. It is a step toward making justice faster, simpler, and more accessible.
For a long time, case backlog has slowed down the system. These new rules signal a shift placing mediation at the centre of dispute resolution.
But here is the question:
Are you familiar with these mediation rules?
Do you understand how mediation works?
Because the conversation is changing, and we must change with it.
