This was a proper last reading because it concluded with the descriptions of the good in this world, since all we’ve been studying is the war #divc0m#ch1002#ch1206
@medievalsarah I agree! It’s interesting to see how both sides, good and evil play a part into the last couple readings and how they are important for the authors emotional reactions #divc0m#ch1002#ch1206
@nickolas_des23 The way I see it, is within infant mortality there cant always be good, there will always be an equal evil. Babies are portrayed in heaven many times so I assume they must also be in hell #divc0m#ch1206
Do we think Dante’s interpretations hell is a warning to people to live their lives as well as they can? Or is it simply a description of the evils of this world?#divc0m#ch1206#ch1002
#mand3v1ll3#ch1002#ch1206 Is there any point in this travel narrative where John Mandeville has a derogatory view of the "others"? Does he view the "others" as civilized or uncivilized?
I would have loved to go on a journey like that! to see other cultures, other societies and see how they live and operate changes your view on how you see the world back home. But to each their own :)
Mandeville's travels is an important story for us to read because it is an early effort to describe the world at the time. Without the tech that we have today, this would have been used as a "window" into seeing these other "worlds" #ch1002#ch1206#mand3v1ll3
When traveling to a new place it is important to realize people have different beliefs and views as you do, but that doesn’t mean you can live them the same #islmtrvl#ch1002#ch1206
Merlin is one of my favorite characters found in this reading. Not only in TKOB, but merlin (or forms of merlin) are shown in HUNDREDS of other stories, showing the importance of the roles of some of these archetypal characters we learn about in these readings #ch1206#brutchron
in The History of The Kings Of Britain, we see a common pattern from most of the other stories that we have read. There is a struggle between the colonizers and the original societies. This controversy is important because the applications could still be made today
@princessdejjj@KeelyEshenbaugh this is a great question! i would say, as a leader you must balance fear and love to earn respect. If your king is too nice then youll be ran all over, if the ruler is too harsh, then the people will revolt. A balance is much needed #shahnmh#ch1002#ch1206
on page 107, Rostam exclaims a poem, stating how he will try to be the best man he can be by raising his grandfather, the king. This is important because it shows how heros in these stories are always trying to improve themselves. #shahnmh#ch1002#ch1206
On pages 104 and 105, we see a similar allegory to many of the other stories we have read relating the differing traits of men and women and how they effect the natural world. #shahnmh#ch1002#ch1206
With out war, there is no history. Man vs Man has always been documented so that we can figure out how to live through these situations in the present day. We must read about war to even learn the struggles with ourselves. #shahnmh#ch1002#ch1006
