One billionaire family controls the bridge that carries 25% of all U.S.–Canada trade.
The good news? There's a brand new public bridge right next door (and Canada paid for the whole thing).
The bad news? Donald Trump won't let it open.
Here's the story:
For more than a decade, Michigan and Canada worked together to build a new public crossing right next to it — six lanes over the Detroit River, named for a Canadian-born Red Wings legend, built by thousands of union workers. Canada paid the entire bill. Michigan co-owns it. It's finished. It’s a shining example of international cooperation and collaboration, with a tremendous return for both sides: more jobs, faster trade, and lower costs.
So why isn't it open?
Because the Moroun family, who own the rival Ambassador Bridge just up the river, doesn’t want the competition. They spent years and tens of millions of dollars trying to stop any competing international crossing from being built or opening. They lost. So they went to the White House instead.
In January, Matthew Moroun gave $1 million to a pro-Trump super PAC. Then the billionaire called Trump's Commerce Secretary and, just hours later, Trump suddenly attacked the same publicly owned bridge he praised in his own first term and threatened to block it.
Then, the day before the June 12th ribbon-cutting, the opening was called off indefinitely.
It's corruption so flagrant it would be laughable if it weren't so damaging.
Trump is screwing over Michiganders for the interests of billionaires — holding a finished, publicly owned project hostage to protect one donor's toll booth.
So a finished bridge sits closed, Michiganders keep paying the higher tolls, cars and trucks cost more, and a billionaire family keeps its monopoly.
Mr. President: stop playing games. Open the damn bridge.
Sen. Ossoff: “The American people want Members of Congress to stop trading stocks. The American people are sick and tired of this corruption, and in fact, this may be one of the most unifying issues in our deeply divided country."
This is ABC journalist Jonathan Karl’s video of the peeling paint that Trump claims implicated the reporter in a crime.
Looks like he’s simply doing his job.
Maybe the President should do his!
It was great catching up with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on Home Court at the Obama Presidential Center. We spoke about the game we love, what it means to open the Center in Chicago, and why understanding our history is so important for navigating the world today. PabloReports: Does Donald Trump get to keep this Qatari jet after the presidency?
Raskin: No, he does not. You know why? Because the Constitution says he can’t do it.
Because the Constitution says that the president may not receive a present, an emolument—which means a payment, an office or title of any kind—from a king, a prince, or a foreign state without the consent of Congress.
And Congress has not consented to him keeping a $400 million jet. So it’s got to be turned over immediately to Congress for disposition.
We can either send it back to the people in Qatar, or we can keep it and do something different with it. But it doesn’t belong to the president.
You know, Abraham Lincoln, in the middle of the Civil War, wanted to keep some elephant tusks he’d gotten from the King of Siam. He never kept a present before. He wrote a letter to Congress. He said, “Can I keep this?” And Congress said, you know, you’re doing a great job, Honest Abe, and we love you, but no, you can’t keep it. Turn it over to the Department of State. That’s the right way to do it.
Every other president has come to Congress to ask whether they can keep one of these foreign gifts from a government, king, or prince. President Trump should be no different. He’s got to come to us too. And if not, we’ll just have to requisition it and confiscate it.
Showing subservience to Trump’s twisted fantasies, & regurgitating the White House canned script, these judicial nominees lack the necessary independence to serve.
Trump was in Pennsylvania today. Here's what voters face:
• Higher costs from inflation and tariffs
• Billions in lost tax revenue from mass deportations
• Hundreds of thousands losing healthcare because of Medicaid cuts and reduced ACA subsidies
• A growing disconnect between political talking points and the economic challenges people are actually living with
These aren't abstractions. They're real consequences for real people in one of the country's most important swing states.
4 ex-presidents—Clinton, Bush, Obama, & Biden—from different parties & eras, agree on one thing: America’s durability isn't automatic. It depends on how we choose to show up.
They delivered a #CupOfJoe full of motivation to stay engaged. #DemsUnited

H/T @Acyn
Good morning and Happy Tuesday to everyone who is glad to see that, unlike CBS bending the knee to trump and ruining shows like 60 Minutes, ABC is telling trump to f*ck off with his attempt to control ALL media.
