Amazing talk by @HumanFact0rz at #SMACC about how to be the contagion for Psychology Safety. One emphasis was on clinical event debriefing. Here is a breakdown clinical debriefing from @symon_ben
Don’t be held back by slides says @SocraticEM and delivers today’s talk without a PowerPoint. You know where I was looking? At her. Not the screen. I was engaged. My two cents - use slides *wisely* as *you* are imparting the knowledge not slides, which is why you’re there. #SMACC
#smacc is a community.
SMACC is not because we’re cool. It’s because we care.
We care about good commmunication, good teaching methods, good teamwork, good airway technique, good evidence, good emotions, good words, good advocacy, good fun, etc. @smaccteam
@choo_ek powerful word

Debriefing after challenging situations can maintain and improve relationships. Hot debrief needs to focus on safety: systems and people (psychological safety) #SMACC
When the team is forming in bits and pieces it's essential that you make people feel welcome and safe when entering into that challenging environment.

Let ti challenging team behaviour is psychological safety, it’s key to safety and teams and incredibly elusive. Half the time ICU teams think they don’t have enough psychological safety to care for patients. Wow. #smacc
If you are punished for answering a question, then you aren’t going to ask a question the next time. This is toxic and dangerous for patient safety #SMACC
Conversations build culture.
Perhaps we should be deliberately having more conversations with our colleagues from other disciplines to build bridges. (Make sure content is mutually respectful as well.)
Be prepared for variable engagement though.

Be flexible, adaptable and humble.
Don't have a fixed idea of what you want to do, or go in with western superiority.
Go for a good period of time.
