Daily complaints:
1) everyone in the hospital except for residents were getting stay pay for the winter storm
2) my landlord sent a company to clear the snow from our lot. They pushed all the snow into my parking space
3) my car battery died
In the first 4 hours of my night shift I was paged 30 times 🙃 several of which were asking me to come explain the day teams plans to families. And had calls while I’m actively doing admissions asking if I can change a (frankly quite ill) childs vitals from q4 to q8. I’m tired
Went to get my hair cut and she cut off (I am not exaggerating) 4 inches shorter than we discussed. I hate it and have cried about it multiple times. I wanted something to boost confidence, not make it worse.
It didn’t take long for the “I have a heavy heart. We should be able to respect each others opinions🥺👉👈. I’m sad people are mad at me” posts to start. Kelly you voted for a racist, sex offender for the third time. I’m not not going to be mad at you.
I scheduled an appointment months ago, have some things I really wanted to talk about and need some refills, scheduled off work….and the appointment gets canceled the week before. Obviously I know shit happens but I’ve been crying about it for like 20 minutes
Carried a large # of patients today and ended up with 5 d/c summaries, one of which is a baby who has been admitted for 3 months and the hospital course hasn’t been updated since week of life 1. Already had a breakdown cause I feel unbelievably stupid and this is not helping
If anyone is debating doing residency near home I’ve gotten to spend time with old friends, have dinner with my family frequently, go shopping with my mom, attend baby showers of close friends, go to my nephews first birthday party. It’s wonderful.
Reasons for vaccine refusal I’ve heard over the last 3 months
-autism (child already has autism diagnosis - has never received a single vaccine) x4
-mthfr
-“hpv doesn’t run in the family”
My neighbors haven’t put their trash bins out on the proper day in months so all 4 of them are overflowing and the possums and squirrels love to spread the trash to the yards of surrounding homes.
I always look up exactly what my toddler patients ate most recently before rounding cause it blows their minds when I tell them I can figure out what they had for dinner the night before by listening to their tummy with my stethoscope
