The State of Texas just banned investment into Chinese companies and is forcing DIVESTMENT of any state funds from Chinese companies. @GregAbbott_TX is leading the way for the United States 🇺🇸 to follow suit. Governor Abbott has defined China as an enemy of the state. 🧵
The criminalization of democracy in Hong Kong recalls the dark days of Taiwan’s Martial Law era. It is also a reminder that we cannot take freedom for granted. Defending our democracy and our freedom to think, to speak, to vote, & to live, is a duty.
Joint statement from @hkdc_us, @thecfhk & @hk_watch calling for Western business execs to withdraw from next week's financial summit in Hong Kong. They'll share a stage with sanctioned human rights abuser John Lee on the same day 45 pro-democracy leaders are sentenced to prison.
Full page ad in today’s New York Times from @thecfhk calling out finance executives for attending an investment conference in Hong Kong this week while 45 democratic opposition leaders are sentenced to prison and pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai’s political trial resumes.
China's version of Tesla - called BYD - is looking to build a factory in Mexico. That would give it a loophole to get cars into the US market, lowering US tariffs that apply to it from 27.5 percent to 2.5 percent. China tariffs should be extended to companies from China operating anywhere in the world - not just in China itself. @SenMarcoRubio@chairmang https://t.co/Ec0F8RmhJe
In a move of complete desperation, China’s government bans institutional investors from selling in the first and last 30 minutes of the day (when over 80% of shares trade hands). Hey xi, the problem is the Indian and not the arrow. #China#Failure
With massive protests in the streets of Hungary, Orban signs a security pact with . . . Beijing. 👀
"Viktor Orban, Hungary’s prime minister, has signed a security pact with China, including an agreement for joint police patrols, in a new sign of his determination to allow Beijing a stronger foothold in the European Union."

Contemporary China has failed to culturally contribute to the world. Most of China's domestic culture is stale, weird, ethnocentric, and heavily censored. Large scale conventions and parties have mostly ceased since 2020. Sadly, modern China is becoming a cultural dead-zone.
NEW: Starbucks *fires* heroic barista who subdued and protected a co-worker from robbers after getting pistol-whipped in the head.
I can't emphasis this enough: Starbucks is trash.
20-year old Michael Harrison, who was working through paramedic school, was fired after he fought off two criminals who tried robbing the store.
The incident happened at a downtown Starbucks in St. Louis.
The men rushed into the store with guns and told everyone to get on the floor. Harrison was instructed to open the cash register which he couldn't because he didn't have credentials.
As the men went through Harrison's pockets, he was pistol-whipped in the head.
A co-worker believed the gun was fake so he started fighting off the robbers. Harrison jumped into action to help him.
Harrison was able to subdue Joshua Noe who was later arrested. The police officers thanked Harrison and his co-worker for their bravery.
The other assailant, Marquise Porter-Doyle, was arrested nearby.
Harrison was praised by local media but Starbucks was not thankful for his actions.
They were then placed on paid leave for two weeks. After the two weeks was up, Harrison and his co-worker were fired for "violating company policy."
"In situations like this, our training and protocols guide our partners to comply and de-escalate, not just for their safety but for the safety of all in the store," Starbucks said.
"That job was helping me pay for college," Harrison said. "I just don’t understand it. I thought it was the right thing to do."
This man should have gotten a raise. Instead, he was fired.
Insane.
Now I know I must watch this. I didn’t realize CCP China is actually a good source if you’re wondering what movies/shows to watch or not, their negative reactions are like 5-🤩 recommendations
"Expats", a new television series starring Nicole Kidman and featuring scenes of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protests, debuted on Amazon Prime Video on Fri Jan 26, but ironically the show could not be accessed in the 🇨🇳 city where it was partly filmed.
Created by Chinese-born American filmmaker Lulu Wang based on a 2016 novel, its first two episodes were listed as "currently unavailable" for viewers based in Hong Kong.
According to early reviews of the show, its penultimate episode — set to be aired on Feb 16 — includes scenes recreating Hong Kong’s 2014 Umbrella Movement, a 79-day occupation of main thoroughfares to oppose Beijing's restrictive election rules.
Amazon's website on Friday listed the show's country availability as "worldwide".

In yet another astounding example of the British government failing to protect Hong Kong refugees, the Home Office has rejected large numbers of asylum claims from political dissidents. This comes after the UK gov failed to sanction officials who violated the Sino-British Joint Declaration, took no action against Chinese diplomats filmed beating Hongkonger immigrants in the streets of Manchester, and failed to intervene as banks including HSBC refused to release Hong Kong retirement accounts to UK immigrants. https://t.co/P8I9xKa2yL
“The more the Chinese government censor critical economic analysis of China, the more Western investors worry about the state of the Chinese economy,” said Steve Tsang, a professor and director of the China Institute at SOAS University of London.
Hong Kong has made a huge difference in the past and could continue to do so, if not for the idiotic crackdowns that result in the outflow of talent and cash. These “leaders” are so dumb they can’t see this.
