This little montage of glamour shots from Star Trek III demonstrates why the "swoopy fighter plane" space sequences of so much later Trek feel so wrong to me. Nothing that big is gonna swerve, dodge, or barrel like an interceptor. We're talking about craft larger than the largest modern supercarrier. And space stations the size of a small moon. *Nothing* is going to be moving quickly, nor easily. The motion should be ponderous. Gliding. Majestic. Suggesting immense physical mass, in additional to physical size. All without ever saying a word to the audience. It's implied through pure visuals. Breathtaking.
