Your daily reminder that Israelis and Palestinians are real people. Most simply want to go about their lives in peace and safety. Their deaths (or kidnappings or injuries) should never be celebrated, no matter how you feel about their government or leaders.
Vivian Silver lived on a kibbutz in the extreme south of Israel, near Gaza (part of recognised Israel, not a settlement). She was abducted into Gaza by Hamas yesterday.
Her words, on the Women Waging Peace website, show she opposes war & cares deeply about Palestinians’ rights.
@amrook Oof so scary and infuriating. Thinking of you and hoping you heal quickly, and that infrastructure changes and that distracted drivers are held accountable!
“This elegant lady of 95 walked in to the seder tonight in a beautiful rich blue sweater. When I commented on how lovely it was, she was quick to tell me its story. Helena survived three concentration camps and when the last one was liberated she was flown by the Red Cross to a hospital in Sweden. She was 5'4" and weighed 52 lbs. Her roommate in the hospital, a fellow survivor, knit the sweater for her while they were there. It was 1945. She told me she has worn that sweater every Passover since then. Everyone has a story but very few have the power of that blue sweater.”

@notcapnamerica It's a satire account. She has a whole series about about her kids' minimum of 6 hrs of screen time a day, and a video about how she lets them each choose which car seat to ride in (these, btw, are controversial topics in mom groups).
@MrTheposter@clhubes This certainly seems to be our family's experience. We are all sick more frequently than we were before the pandemic. Have you seen any good studies on this, btw?
@clhubes Fwiw my kids have had so much screen time that I'm worried they will physically turn into screens. But what can you do? Parents have to work, and there are no options in my community for care for sick kiddos. Thankful to be able to work from home, but it is harrrddd
@clhubes We're in the same boat with an 8 year old and a 5 year old. They're home all week with covid after getting it in July (vaxxed, boosted etc). Also 3 rounds of the stomach flu this fall and at least 2 nasty colds that were not covid (one was likely RSV). It's awful.
