Can N. Chandrababu Naidu become India's Prime Minister ??

My assessment is that N. Chandrababu Naidu could become Prime Minister through a coalition government, but he would need a major political realignment across India. The key question is not simply how many MPs his own party wins in Andhra Pradesh, it is whether he can build a coalition that commands a majority in the Lok Sabha and whether the coalition partners agree to support him as their leader.

India's Lok Sabha has 543 elected seats, so a party or coalition generally needs 272 MPs for a majority when all seats are filled. The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and must be able to demonstrate the confidence of the Lok Sabha.

Naidu's most plausible route would be to emerge as a consensus candidate in a hung Parliament, with support from regional parties and one or more national parties. The following is a numerical scenario analysis

The 2024 election provides a useful baseline. The BJP won 240 seats, the Congress won 99, the Samajwadi Party won 37, the Trinamool Congress won 29, the DMK won 22, the TDP won 16 and the JD(U) won 12. The BJP-led NDA secured a majority through its allies.
